How do you keep your agency in the age of A.I.?

We’re back with a new episode for Creativity Squared — our 50th one! 🥳

This week we’re diving into resilience and agency in the age of A.I. with our guest Sam Jordan, a futurist on a mission to spread “plausible optimism.” As a Manager at Future Today Institute, she helps clients navigate and plan for unpredictable futures with certainty.

Sam also wrote on computing, the metaverse, space, and A.I. in the 2024 Emerging Tech Trends Report, which is released annually by the company’s renowned founder and CEO, Amy Webb, at her equally famous SXSW keynote.

With a background in economics and data science and a passion for sci-fi, Sam found her dream job in strategic foresight, writing evidence-based sci-fi to inform real-world strategies.

In this episode, you'll hear Sam's insights on the convergence of A.I., biotech, and connected ecosystems, creating a "supercycle" unlike any general-purpose technology that we’ve seen before. We discuss the consolidation of power in tech, the importance of resilience, and the need for experimentation during this transitionary period.

We also dive into fascinating trends like using human brain cells to power chips, universal basic income to address the social safety net, and the importance of human purpose and meaning during this seismic change. Sam also shares her favorite sci-fi influences and emphasizes the power of storytelling and scenario planning to shape the future.

Yemi A.D. is an artist who’s going to the Moon! 🚀

I first met Yemi at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber's BOLD Community networking event at SXSW, but it wasn’t until he was on stage with Jeffrey Cardenas revealing Apptronik's humanoid robot Apollo — which was trained on his dance moves! — that I learned he was selected to be on the dearmoon mission!

Yemi, a multidisciplinary creative force and Czech-Nigerian choreographer, was chosen from among 1 million candidates to be a crew member of dearMoon, marking the first all-civilian space trip around the Moon. He’s one of the eight artists chosen to join Japanese entrepreneur and art collector Yusaku Maezawa, who believes art has the power to promote world peace.

Yemi’s love of movement and finding freedom in movement are intertwined into all aspects of his life, which you’ll hear in the conversation.

In this episode, listen to Yemi's incredible journey from growing up as the only Black child where he was raised in Czechoslovakia to his rise as a creative powerhouse working with Kanye West to founding Moonshot Platform to traveling into space.

We also dive into how Yemi's studies of indigenous cultures worldwide gave him insight into the intelligence of movement. He also shares the importance of representation in the tech industry to ensure a more inclusive and human-centered approach to A.I. and robotics — he’s a futurist and proud that the word “robot” was created by the Czech writer Karel Čapek.

Yemi believes that the best way to predict the future is to create it, and he's doing just that. Tune in to discover his vision for the future he’s working to create.

With the golden ticket to test out OpenAI’s Sora, Nik Kleverov joins Creativity Squared in Episode 48 to discuss his experience with the text-to-video tool and the childlike creativity it unleashed in him.

Not only is Nik an OpenAI Collaborator, but he’s also the Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Native Forgein, a hybrid creative agency-production company based in LA.

It’s been almost exactly one year since my interview with Chad Nelson, who collaborated with Nik on “Critterz,” the groundbreaking first-ever animated short film that was 100% designed using A.I. visuals produced by DALL·E.

Today, in Episode 48, you’ll hear Nik’s experience working with Sora in addition to other text-to-video tools. Nik’s perspective is informed by working with clients on commercials, as a filmmaker, and on a team creating original IP.

Nik also shares an agency owner’s perspective, discussing why Native Foreign is going all-in as next gen creatives and establishing an A.I. labs division within the agency.

I loved hearing about one of his creative projects, which he got out of his vault to bring to life and that will evolve alongside GenAI video capabilities.

In our conversation, Nik dives into the creative process, the ever-changing A.I. landscape, and the paradigm shift underway in the advertising industry.

Artists need to be part of the development of A.I. tools and this is your chance to hear what Nik is sharing with OpenAI related to Sora and how you can stay ahead of the curve with A.I. and storytelling — enjoy!

Today, we’re celebrating the 1-year anniversary of Creativity Squared! 🥳

It’s wild to me that a year has passed in the blink of an eye, and we’re already in Season 2, Episode 47, and celebrating our first anniversary of the show.

From the bottom of my heart: Thank you!

It means the world to me that you’re along for the journey exploring the intersection of A.I. and creativity in this new Imagination Age we’re entering together.

Also, a massive thank you to the 60 guests who’ve been interviewed over the 47 episodes of the show (not including the re-imagined A.I.-created Salvador Dalí!), to the Creativity Squared team, and to PLAY Audio Agency who makes this show possible.

We at Creativity Squared don’t want anyone to have their head in the sand and then feel like they’ve been hit by a Mack truck with A.I. and all that’s coming. That’s why this platform is dedicated to empowering creators, artists, and curious minds to unlock exponential creativity and confidently navigate A.I. in the new Imagination Age.

I’m committed to being a proactive voice for a human-centered future where A.I. amplifies the best of human potential, not replace us, and to envision a world where artists not only co-exist with A.I., but thrive.

Episode 47 is another time capsule episode, capturing this moment in time of where we’ve been, where we’re at, and where we’re going at Creativity Squared and at the intersection of A.I. and creativity. I hope you enjoy it and all that’s to come!

A.I. and ethics — where do we draw the line?

Today’s guest is Dr. Andrew (Andy) Cullison who is the founding executive director of the Cincinnati Ethics Center and a research professor at the University of Cincinnati who specializes in moral reasoning, ethics education, and leadership development. With over 15 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Andy is a leading scholar on questions of how we can have moral knowledge.

In our conversation (which we joke is an airplane between two people sitting beside each other), Andy shares the importance of teaching ethics in an A.I. world, what he's learned from experimenting with ChatGPT's moral reasoning abilities, practical tips, moral framework exercises for navigating everyday ethical dilemmas, and much more.

Andy emphasizes the urgent need for practitioners developing A.I. to receive robust ethics training so they can spot potential issues early on.

You're in for a treat to hear Andy's insights that offer a philosopher's perspective on some of the most pressing issues of our time.
