DETAILS:

CARLSBAD: At around 2:24 a.m., reports of a water emergency came out at the intersection of Calle Timoteo and Caminito Malaga.

On arrival, firefighters located a water main break that was causing a large geyser and had created a significant hole in the roadway due to the water pressure.
A nearby piece believed to be part of the broken main was also located at the scene.

Minor flooding was reported downstream from the break.
The Carlsbad Water Department was requested and was able to shut off the water so repairs could begin.

The surrounding area will remain closed to through traffic while crews work to repair the damaged pipe.

LOCATION: Vons 931 Lomas Santa Fe

DETAILS:

At around 12:00 pm CHP Oceanside received reports from Orange County about a stolen 2024 expedition entering the area being tracked via the ford app by the vehicles owner.
Officers located the vehicle on the southbound five near La Costa and lit it up, and the driver fled prompting a pursuit.
The pursuit reached speeds of 100+ miles per hour. The vehicle exited Delmar Heights, and while on surface streets was involved in a collision, one armed suspect fled from the vehicle. And was quickly taken into custody.
The vehicle continued on surface streets, reaching speed up to 70 mph. The vehicle re-entered the northbound five at Villa de la Valle. And exited Loma Santa Fe.
The vehicle stopped near a vons and five suspects exited the vehicle running into Vons.
Three suspects were located in a bathroom and we’re arrested and well processing the suspects two females who we’re in the vehicle were also arrested nearby.
In total six suspects were arrested 1 gun was recovered. 2 vehicles were damaged, and the stolen expedition was recovered. There is no additional information at this time.

VISTA: At around 12:50 a.m., CHP officers attempted to stop a vehicle on westbound SR-78 for suspected DUI. The driver exited the freeway and failed to yield, prompting a pursuit. The pursuit continued through surface streets in San Marcos before returning to westbound SR-78. The driver later exited at Vista Village Drive and pulled into a Lowe’s parking lot, where they were taken into custody. The driver was arrested for DUI and evading law enforcement.

SAN DIEGO: At approximately 3:00 p.m., protesters gathered at Waterfront Park for a demonstration labeled “No War on Venezuela” and “Stop the Bombings.” The protest was in response to the United States carrying out military actions in Venezuela and arrested President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Several protesters later marched through nearby streets toward the USS Midway Museum, chanting against U.S. military involvement and foreign intervention.

The protest remained peaceful, and all participants dispersed by approximately 5:30 p.m. There is no additional information at this time.

ESCONDIDO: At approximately 9:31 p.m., reports of a crash came in on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near El Norte Parkway. When CHP officers arrived, they attempted to take the driver into custody. During the process, the driver became combative and fought with an officer, prompting a call for a Code Cover.

Additional officers responded to the scene and were able to take the suspect into custody. Firefighters were requested to transport the suspect to a hospital due to multiple Taser deployments. No officers were injured during the incident.

OCEANSIDE: At approximately 7:20 p.m. on January 2, 2026, reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision were received at the Circle K located at 1990 College Blvd.

First responders arrived to find a pedestrian down under or near a vehicle. Life-saving measures were attempted; however, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, a stretch of Oceanside Boulevard has been shut down in both eastbound and westbound directions.

The driver involved remained on scene and is believed to be cooperating with authorities at this time. No additional information has been released.

LOCATION: SR 67 & chaparral way
AREA/CITY: Poway
DETAILS:

POWAY: At approximately 5:26 a.m., multiple reports were received of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a fuel tanker at SR-67 and Chaparral Way.
First responders arrived to find a yellow SUV with major damage and a fuel tanker with moderate damage. Firefighters transported the driver of the SUV to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The driver of the fuel tanker was not transported.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and remains under investigation. Hazardous materials crews were requested due to oil in the roadway.

SR-67 will remain closed while cleanup and the investigation are ongoing. There is no additional information at this time.

LOCATION: SB I-5 & Bonita Rd
AREA/CITY: Chula Vista
DETAILS:
CHULA VISTA: At approximately 2:44 a.m., reports of a collision involving a FedEx semi-truck were received on southbound Interstate 5 near the Bonita Road on-ramp.
First responders arrived to find the semi blocking the on-ramp with major damage to the cab.
The driver was transported to a hospital; their condition is currently unknown.
Hazardous materials crews were requested due to a fuel spill across the roadway.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
It is unknown at this time whether any other vehicles were involved.

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 01-02-26 at approximately 2:27 AM
LOCATION: 200 block of Robelini Drive
AREA/CITY: Vista

DETAILS:
At around 2:27 AM, reports of a traffic collision were received in the 200 block of Robelini Drive. Upon arrival, first responders located a vehicle that had crashed into a fence, with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters worked to extricate the driver, who was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle may have traveled into oncoming lanes, struck a high-voltage power pole, and continued into a fence, also colliding with a parked vehicle. The driver appeared to be doing Uber/Lyft at the time of the crash. Although no other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

CHP is currently investigating the incident. San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) was requested to respond due to damage to the power pole.

At approximately 11:54 PM, reports of a traffic collision came in at the intersection of El Camino Real and Mesa Drive.

Upon arrival, first responders located two vehicles with major damage. One vehicle, a taxi, was found near the edge of a ledge and was at risk of falling into the wash below.

Firefighters worked to extricate a female passenger from the taxi. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted by helicopter to Scripps La Jolla with major injuries.

The driver of the other involved vehicle was later located in a nearby apartment complex, placed under arrest, and transported from the scene.

Oceanside Police traffic investigators are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
