Crypto Knight A Transatlantic duo formed in 2021 by Composer/Musician/Producer Dave Johnson and Topliner/Lyricist/Vocalist Tim Malugin.

Their name, like their music, reflects a genre-blending fusion of past and future, combining elements of Prog Rock, Art Rock and Pop. Crypto Knight is Dave Johnson & Tim Malugin. Having met online during a music course the pair realized that despite very different backgrounds (Dave from North East England (now based in Portugal) & Tim on the Gulf Coast USA) they had similar musical influences incl

uding Folk Rock, Classic Rock, Progressive Rock and Electronic Music and so started writing together. With Dave composing the music and Tim providing melodies and lyrics, the early online collaborations as part of their course focused more on modern sounding tracks. However, it was soon apparent that they preferred to be more authentic and write in their more familiar Rock style, and so new material came together very quickly. The resulting albums demonstrate their unique and varied style which has been described as a mix of Neo Prog, Art Rock, Alternative and Electronic Rock.

Review of our latest album
Crypto Knight - A Traveller's Tale

Formed after an online music course, Crypto Knight is formed of musician/composer Dave Johnson and lyricist/vocalist Tim Malugin. Combining future and past for the name, it showcases their music too – inspired by early prog, but incorporating modern technology.

There is certainly a vibe of the 70s/80s to the music. At various points I'm reminded of artists like Big Country or a good version of The Who. The music combines prog along with thoughtful atmospheres and uses it to weave stories for you. It drifts through layers of rock, to ballads and almost electro pop stylings. S.O.S reminded me a bit of War of the Worlds in its structure, with the steady drumming, bopping bassline and use of keys and synths.

The overall sound and style serve up nostalgia for the storytelling days of old school prog, with some tracks bringing to mind the Animals era (my favourite one) of Pink Floyd with their structure and tone. Never too dark, but equally not afraid to shy away from the lighter moments, while still keeping enough playful passages remain a very enjoyable tribute to golden era of the genre.

Fans of Yes, Pink Floyd, rock operas or Aphrodite's Child would enjoy this release I think.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 give away their work 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲!
It isn’t just music.
It’s hours of writing, recording, mixing, producing, self doubt, and a lifetime of experience.
It's thousands spent on equipment and recording time.
Music has value.
Songs have worth.
You wouldn't expect a Plumber, Electrician, Hairdresser, Mechanic to work without reward for their time, service and skills.
Music deserves to be heard – and paid.
Imagine a world without music.
