GOVERNOR UZODIMMA FLAGS OFF 3-DAY RETREAT FOR IMO LG OFFICIALS, CHARGES THEM TO PRIORITIZE SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE

Governor Hope Uzodimma on Thursday declared open a three-day retreat for Local Government officials in Imo State, aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and promoting sustainable development.

The retreat, themed “Public Sector Governance for Officials of Local Government in Imo State – Enhancing Local Government Sustainable Development,” is coordinated by the Progressive Institute, an initiative of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing participants, the Governor charged Local Government officials to prioritise service to the people, describing public office as a noble calling that demands responsibility, passion for service, accountability, and a commitment to giving citizens a genuine sense of belonging.

He urged Chairmen to hold regular meetings with stakeholders to promote inclusiveness and unity, while advising Councillors to work closely with ward leaders, traditional rulers, and town union presidents to address community needs and challenges.

Reaffirming his commitment to the APC manifesto, the Governor stated that public office must be approached with integrity, accountability, and transparency, adding that security agencies have been instructed to monitor performance and presence at the grassroots.

Director-General of the Progressive Institute, Mr. Lanre Adebayo, lauded the peaceful atmosphere in Owerri and praised the calibre of participants at the retreat. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ruby Emele, commended the Governor’s investment in human capacity building alongside infrastructure development.

Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru Ph.D, top government officials, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders.

GOVERNOR UZODIMMA HAILS D’TIGRESS FOR FIBA AFROBASKET VICTORY, CELEBRATES IMO STAR PROMISE AMUKAMARA AND SARAH OGOKE

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has extended hearty congratulations to Nigeria’s D’Tigress National Basketball Team following their impressive victory at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2025 Tournament.

Describing the win as a “remarkable achievement,” the Governor commended the team’s resilience, hard work, and unwavering pursuit of excellence, which culminated in bringing home the prestigious trophy. He noted that the victory is not only a source of national pride but also a testament to Nigeria’s progress and unity through sports.

Governor Uzodimma paid special tribute to Imo-born star, Promise Amukamara and Sarah Ogoke, for their outstanding performance and unwavering commitment on and off the court.

“Their strengths, dedications, and patriotism have shone brightly throughout the tournament,” the Governor said, adding that Ndi Imo are truly proud of them. He urged them to continue being beacons of excellence and inspiration to the next generation of champions.

GOVERNOR UZODIMMA VOWS TO TACKLE SABOTAGE, REINFORCE GRASSROOTS SECURITY IN IMO

Governor Hope Uzodimma has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to combating insecurity in Imo State, stating that acts of sabotage will not derail the government’s determined efforts to protect lives and property.

Speaking shortly after the Holy Eucharist at the Government House Chapel in Owerri, the Governor emphasized that strategic and deliberate measures are being implemented to enhance safety across the state.

He noted that a key aspect of the government’s security strategy is the strengthening of grassroots participation, including the active integration of community-based structures into the broader security framework.

“As part of our efforts, we are expanding the reach of the Imo State Vigilante Group to every nook and cranny of our villages. This will ensure that our communities are not only secure but also actively involved in defending themselves against criminal elements,” Governor Uzodimma stated.

Condemning recent acts of sabotage witnessed in some parts of the state, the Governor described such actions as threats to both security and sustainable development.

“These unfortunate acts of sabotage not only endanger lives but also hinder the progress and growth of our society. We must all come together in unity to defend and develop our beloved Imo,” he urged.

Governor Uzodimma also expressed deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the recent attack, describing the incident as painful and deeply regrettable.

“My heart goes out to the families affected by this senseless violence. We stand with you in this time of grief, and we remain resolute in ensuring that justice is served and that such tragedies do not repeat themselves,” he said.

The Governor called on residents to collaborate with government agencies and security outfits in securing the state, adding that peace and development can only thrive in an atmosphere of collective responsibility.

They continue to be shining examples of excellence and resilience, making Imo State and Nigeria immensely proud. Their outstanding performance inspires our younger generations, and we salute them as true role models.

We eulogize our indefatigable players for their energy, resilience, and unity, which played a vital role in this triumphant journey. We also applaud the Technical and Management Team for their strategic leadership.

This well-deserved victory answers the call of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his goodwill message to the Team ahead of the Finals, and rekindles national pride. As you soar, know that Nigeria stands solidly behind you.

UZODIMMA RECONSTITUTES IMO STATE BOUNDARY COMMITTEE TO STRENGTHEN PEACE AND SECURITY

Governor Hope Uzodimma has reconstituted the Imo State Boundary Committee, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sustainable peace, security, and socio-economic development in the state’s border communities.

The committee, now chaired by Deputy Governor Lady (Dr.) Chinyere Ekomaru, will work closely with the National Boundary Commission to address boundary-related issues, focusing on the accurate delineation and maintenance of Nigeria’s administrative maps, especially as they affect Imo State.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the initiative is vital to resolving territorial disputes and preventing conflicts that could arise from boundary misunderstandings. He expressed confidence that the committee would discharge its duties with diligence and objectivity, in the best interest of the state and the nation.

STATE POLICING AS PROPOSED BY GOV. HOPE UZODIMMA

Security, being everyone’s business, requires the domestication of the art of policing - an approach that actively involves the unique local structures and dynamics of every community across the nation.

For Nigeria to effectively tackle its complex security challenges, there is a compelling need to decentralize the policing system, thereby enhancing grassroots surveillance and improving the welfare of law enforcement personnel at the community level.

Governor Hope Uzodimma emphasized this position while speaking at the recently held Public Hearing for the review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Among other proposals, he advocated for the establishment of state police as a strategic reform necessary for strengthening national security.

If adopted and properly implemented, state policing promises to be a transformative tool in safeguarding lives and property - one of the most fundamental responsibilities of any government. It empowers communities, enables swift response, and fosters trust between citizens and security agencies.

This proposition deserves widespread support, as it reflects a nationally accepted solution and a progressive step toward a safer, more secure Nigeria for all.
