Book-to-film fiends: It’s Alive! It’s Alive! Spooky, supernatural comedy novel “DISPOSSESSED: A Very L.A. Ghost Story” drops just in time for the holidays.
“DISPOSSESSED,” by Guillermo X. Márquez, author of “Evil's Eden: Only Murders in Los Angeles,” spins a modern-day tangled triangle among a boy and a girl and a thing long dead. Márquez’s new tale centers on a young Hispanic Angeleno, Alejandro “Alex” Olvera, and his tempestuous love for lily-white Tempest Wirth, as they death-spiral into homeownership under the spell of a decrepit Victorian with a grisly past. For fans of outrageous holiday fare, the tale unfolds over the course of the awful-est, cringey-est, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The author took inspiration from his own travails while couch-surfing in a certifiably haunted Hollywood mansion.
Says Márquez, “It's about depravity, debauchery, life's firsts, infidelity, inequality, broken hearts, oppression, possession, corporate takeovers, land theft, privilege, paucity, murder most foul, family feuds, friendship, the high cost of living, and kicking demon arse. So yes — it's a comedy.”
An irreverent coming-of-age comedy with the chills of slow-burn horror. Get ready for pumpkins, turkeys, Santas, and fiery-eyed demons! DISPOSSESSED is the perfect holiday “evergreen.”
