That is a whole lot of darkness my old friend...

❄️ 65 Days of Darkness Begin in Barrow (Utqiaġvik), Alaska 🌑

Today, the sun set for the last time in Barrow — one of the northernmost towns in the world.

This marks the beginning of the Polar Night, a period when the sun won’t rise at all for about 65 days.

Only the glow of streetlights and the Arctic horizon illuminate the landscape as the town enters this long stretch of darkness.
The next sunrise will be on January 22, 2026.
For those living in the Arctic, this season is a time of:

✨ quiet resilience,
✨ reflection,
✨ connection with nature,
and understanding the true value of light.

A powerful reminder of just how extraordinary our planet really is. 🌍💙

Every year, couples from around the world race in the Wife Carrying World Championship, tackling obstacle courses, water pits, and pure determination — all for that frothy grand prize. 🏆

We’re not saying we’d train for it… but we’re definitely cheering from the sidelines with a cold one in hand. 😄
