In this exclusive interview, Sylhet-based Manipuri singer-songwriter Hanuba sits down with Projapoti Debi, a celebrated Manipuri artiste and former Nazrul Geeti singer at Bangladesh Betar, Sylhet. Projapoti Debi sings some of the timeless pieces composed by her late husband Felem Surendro, including the iconic "Leirang Nangbu Kanano" (written by Hijam Anganghal) and "O Shinggarei" (written by Maibam Tolen). She also performs a few lines from "Nungshi Meichak," a lesser-known composition by the Tolen-Suren duo.

Through this heartfelt conversation, Projapoti Debi walks down memory lane, sharing stories of her father’s passion for classical music, the golden era of Bangladeshi Manipuri songs, her artistic journey, her late husband’s contributions to Manipuri music, the enduring legacy of their work and her cherished memories of staying at Anil Kishan Singha’s home in Sapam Leikai for rehearsals.

This interview is part of a series celebrating the untold stories of Manipuri music and culture, preserving the voices and legacies of those who shaped the rich cultural identity of the Manipuri community in Bangladesh.
