This season should be called extra dark black mirror because this was bleak. Once again black mirror explore the dark side of technology and we enjoyed it. USS Calisster Into Infinity was a good sequel to the first popular episode. Now excuse me while I discontent in the wilderness for the next month.

Recipe: we made a king Arthur’s gluten free chocolate cake mix. It was great!

What do you do when you’re on a cruise to the Bahamas and are planning to record your podcast, but you’re tired from fun and sun and didn’t finish the book at the pool? You ask AI to give you food suggestions that start with H and have 3 syllables and handle it when you get home.

Jason and I met up post-friends birthday cruise and mastered Halloumi, Honeydew, and Habanero dishes three ways! The honeydew sauce was perfection. We both enjoyed the Canterbury tales-esque sci fi classic “Hyperion”. Now to travel backward in time in a time tomb so we can enjoy this dish again!

Our latest podcast is “Gluten free gnocchi with Wool”. We both enjoyed this post apocalyptic book and both plan on continuing the series.

We decided to make the gnocchi from scratch with the gluten free flour. This wasn’t too difficult but a little tedious. It’s asparagus season so eat it will it’s fresh!

Vegan Pork Ribs with Blackberry Chipotle Glaze with The Mercy of Gods is out yesterday!

Jason reminded me I can schedule posts but I told him I would be able to post yesterday even though I had my improv graduation show last night. And guess what, I did not end up posting. Bad podcaster.

Anyway, we read the first book of James S.A. Corey’s new series, The Mercy of Gods. It was a strong showing and a great departure from the expanse series.

The book heavily featured berries, so we made a bbq blackberry glaze. It was really cool cooking the blackberries in vinegar because they changed to a beautiful pink color. We made tempeh as the pork substitue and while I didn’t love it, it was still pretty good.

“tiny vegetarian Big Macs with Heaven’s River” is out today!
Neither of us has ever had a Big Mac so we had to get outside verification on this dish from Marc, and he said it was pretty close. Apparently the secret to the sauce is to NOT use ketchup. Also, we learned how to bake in sesame seeds to the gluten free buns. Honestly, I am not gluten free and I couldn’t tell the difference with these gluten free buns. These were delicious and hey there’s lettuce on them so we got our veggies.

Heaven’s River is the 4th book in the Bobiverse universe and it was a loonnnng one. We’re starting to see some “genetic” drift in the Bobiverse which is causing some internal conflict, and follow Bob on a delightful quest through a O’Neill cylinder to find Bender. I’m looking forward to reading book 5.

Happy New Year!
Latest podcast is “Crunch Wrap Petites with Armor”. We made Taco Bell style crunch wraps and they were amazing. We made the inner crunch layer by baking tortillas in flour which was really delicious but now I see why tortilla chips are so calorically dense.

Armor is an interesting military sci fi book (one of Jason’s favorite sub genres of sci fi) that explores the experiences of people tied to a military suit of armor.

New episode! Vegan Potato Salad with “2001: A Space Odyssey”

In this episode we discuss the sci fi classic and make some blue vegan potato salad.

While very much intertwined with the movie, the book goes into more detail on the mysterious alien presence of the monoliths, and the psychedelic journey David Bowman takes when he arrives at Saturn’s moon. We had some interesting discussions on humanity and the purpose of the killer computer featured on the astronauts journey to Saturn.

We also made blue potato salad. At the end of the book Bowman gets fed a blue goo when he’s in the alien space represented as a human hotel. It’s even in the cereal boxes! We paired that with an impossible burger and made some tater tots for a delicious double potato meal.

Today we release “Easy Bean Dip with Lagoon”. Sometimes things are tough and you have to decide you’re going to make easy bean dip instead of jollof rice and fried plantains, which was made in the book and did sound delicious.

The bean dip was brought to Daeva’s DnD group later in the day and was big hit.

We enjoyed Lagoon and both would read more Nnedi Okorafor books. Lagoon was a fresh take on an alien invasion which ended with hope and compassion, which I wish for us all.

Aluminum Foil Packet Vegetarian Italian Sausage and Vegetables with "All Systems Red" is out today. We make a futuristic foil packet meal to discuss “All Systems Red”, which we both liked!!

This was easy besides all the chopping and it was really good. All Systems Red features a blasé cyborg that just wants to watch the entertainment feed but gets pulled into a mystery on a survey mission of a new planet. Very relatable!
