Some ways you may be damaging your hair without you knowing.

1) You tie your hair with rubber bands.

Unfortunately, curly hair and rubber bands don't usually mix. Rubber bands puts extra stress on your hair and cause it to break. They are tough to remove, forcing you to damage your hair in the process.

2) You use just any product you can find.

Stop the habit of using just any product you can find, whether recommended to you or not, you need to read, study and know what you're actually applying to your hair, most products can actually damage your curls, you need be be extra careful when dealing with products.

3) You don't protect your hair while you sleep.

Protecting your hair while you sleep is very important, please wear a satin bonnet.

4) You wash your hair every blessed day.

By applying shampoo too often, you strip off important oils from your scalp, thus setting your sebaceous glands to "overwork " mood. Change your wash day routine, try not to wash your hair everyday.

5) You use heat on dirty hair.

My sisters, hair that is already dirty or already has a bunch of styling products could be damaged by heat. Wash your hair first and even if you must use heat on your hair, use a heat protectant first.

6) You stress too much.

While it's hard to avoid stress, learn how to deal with it. If you're stressed, it affects your hair and every other part of your body. Embrace healthy lifestyle, don't be afraid to take a break.

7) You over manipulate your hair.

Every minute you're touching your hair, styling your hair, every day you're taking down protective hairstyles and making new ones, my sisters, excessive manipulation can lead to frizz, spilt ends and breakage, reduce the temptation of constantly manipulating your hair, allow your hair to breath.

📌How to properly detangling and moisturize your hair.

Things you need are, a spray bottle containing water, wide tooth comb, leave in conditioner and an hair oil or butter.

Firstly, you have to divide your hair into sections, add little water to your hair, work with each sections gently, apply your leave in conditioner, finger detangle all knots then you use your wide tooth comb to comb your hair, from the tips to the roots gently, after doing so, apply your hair oil and then you twist or braid your hair.

📌Some carrier oils you can use for prepoo and to seal in moisture.

carrier oils are vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or the nuts.

Olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, hazelnut oil, black seed oil, nuts oil, almond oil, avocado oil etc.

Mind you, carrier oil can be applied directly to your hair and scalp but essential oils needs to be diluted first.

📌In reality, natural hair is fragile and needs to be treated with the gentlest of care in order for it to flourish. Tone down the manipulation. Constant manipulation can be too much for some hair types, natural or not.

📌How to promote hair growth.
It’s important to work with your hair’s porosity, rather than against it, in your 4c hair routine. Leveraging your porosity is the key to retaining moisture.

Once you’ve figured out your porosity, the next important issue to cover is wash day.

📌Pre-poo

Shampoo is a critical part of any natural hair routine.

4c hair gets dirty just like any other hair type, and leaving it dirty can result in chronic scalp and hair issues.

Shampoo can be quite drying, so make sure to use a pre-poo treatment prior to shampooing. This can be as simple as applying your fave oil all of your strands.

To effectively pre-poo, section your hair and apply water and a generous amount of your fave conditioner to your hair and slowly finger detangle. This will cut your time spent in the shower in half, and ensure gentle detangling, reducing the chances of breakage.

📌Shampoo

Look for moisturizing shampoos (yes, they exist!!) that are formulated with friction-reducing butters and emollients.

Remember: only clean hair can be adequately moisturized.

📌Deep Condition

Deep conditioners include delivery agent ingredients that increase product penetrability, allowing your hair to truly be moisturized from the inside out.

It’s important to know your issue before buying a deep conditioner. Do you suffer from dryness? If so, look for conditioning and moisturizing deep conditioners that contain plant-based moisturizing ingredients (think honey, fatty alcohols).

Are you dealing with breakage? Perhaps a protein-based deep conditioner once a month with strengthening ingredients followed by a moisturizing deep conditioner.

Avoid mineral oil or petroleum-based deep conditioners as they temporarily create a barrier around the hair.

📌Moisturize and Seal

There’s some misunderstandings online about the use of oils and butters. Should you use oils on your hair?

The answer: yes

It is important to use a good leave in conditioner on hair but all that moisture can be lost easily thats why it also important to lock in all that moisture using an hair butter or oil.
Experiment with using oils in your routine to see if they work for you.

📌Protective Style and Low Manipulative Styles.

Make low maintenance hairstyles like twists, braids, Conrows etc. Another way of protecting your hair is wearing a satin or silk bonnet before you sleep.

📌What you should know about washing your hair.

#1: Washing your hair too often (or not enough).

frequent washing will inevitably cause mechanical damage to the hair strands. if your scalp is oily, shampooing once every two weeks can be beneficial to reduce "the buildup of oil and products.

#2: Using the wrong shampoo and conditioner.

Shampoos are created to cleanse your hair and scalp, while conditioners lubricate strands when wet, making them look smoother and feel softer. Beyond their basic purpose, there are myriad specialized options to choose from for different hair types and concerns — and using the wrong formulas for you can mean hair that feels and looks not-so-great. Seek out these terms on shampoo and conditioner bottles to find the best bet for your hair needs.

#3: Mixing and matching products.

Get the set: "Shampoos and conditioners are developed and tested for efficacy in pairs, which allows their manufacturers to optimize ingredients for their individual functions," Aral explains. "Mixing brands and collections may produce less effective results, including under- and over-conditioning."

#4: Getting into hot (or cold) water.

The right water temperature is also key when washing your hair. “Don’t use water that’s too hot, because it can dry out your scalp," Butler recommends. "Opt for warm water that feels comfortable." And skip that dreaded cold rinse when you wash out your conditioner: It won't actually increase hair's shine, she adds.

#5: Piling on too much product.

More isn't better when it comes to shampoo and conditioner. Apply sparingly: Start with a small dollop of shampoo and conditioner and add more as needed. "Excess shampoo will not get hair cleaner; it will just make it harder to rinse.

#6: Not washing your whole head...

People tend to glob products onto one spot on their hair and then end up not getting it totally clean. Distribute your shampoo evenly: "Squeeze it into your palms, then use your fingers to work it from your scalp to the ends.
When you've skipped a wash or overused styling products, follow the shampoo directions of lather, rinse and repeat. "This helps achieve a deeper cleanse."

#7:rinsing thoroughly.

Washing out your shampoo and conditioner is just as crucial as applying it correctly to avoid buildup. If you have curly or damaged strands, detangle them gently with a wide-toothed comb prior to rinsing out conditioner to prevent breakage. Then, "rinse hair until you don't feel any product residue to ensure that it's totally clean.
