Thank You for 1,000 Followers!

When I first created this page for Cyprus, I never imagined it would grow to 1,000 followers. While that may be small compared to some, it means so much to have a community that appreciates what this page has to offer. Having spent years traveling with no expectations, it’s incredibly rewarding to see people find value in it.

Even though I’m now back in the UK, this page remains a resource for anyone traveling to, working in, or living in Cyprus. Whether you're looking to soak up the sun, explore the beaches, or dive into the island’s rich history and adventures, I hope this page helps you make the most of your time there.

If you’ve found this page useful, please share it with friends and family so more people can discover the beauty of Cyprus!

Hello everyone! Long time no see—Happy New Year! 🎉🎉

I’ve just revamped my profile into a more professional space, and I’d love for you to follow along on my photography journey! While I’m not a professional photographer, I’ve certainly improved over time—all with just my phone camera.

In the link below, I share where it all began. If you scroll back two years, you’ll find my first travel captures from Egypt—Cario, Luxor, Alexandria, and even the desert. Since then, I’ve explored Prague, Budapest, Athens, Delphi, Mycenae, Rome, Naples, and various parts of the UK.

I may not post frequently (since I can’t always be on the move), but whenever I do, you can expect new content from my latest adventures! I haven’t organized everything into albums, but I hope you enjoy the journey so far. 😁

Discover Cyprus: A Journey Through History and Hidden Gems

Cyprus is an island steeped in history, shaped by empires that have left their mark over thousands of years—from the Assyrians and Egyptians to the Persians, Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, and Ottomans. Each civilization has contributed to the island’s rich cultural tapestry, making it a fascinating place to explore.

During my two years in Cyprus, I made it my mission to uncover its unique treasures—from ancient ruins to breathtaking landscapes—so you can experience them too, all from the comfort of your home. While I may not have new adventures to share at the moment, this page isn’t going anywhere!

Explore, Plan, and Share:

Use the albums to revisit past posts and plan your own trips efficiently—many of the locations I’ve shared are near each other, making it easy to explore multiple spots in one go.

• A brief description of your experience.

• A few great photos—from entrance to exit, capturing the atmosphere, comfort, and unique history.

I’ll do the rest and ensure you’re credited in the post!

Philippos Yiapanis - Sculptor otherwise known as Mikri Salamina Sculpture Park Yiapanis Art Nest is an absolutely stunning place in Fasoula! I can't believe I nearly missed this hidden gem!! You'll just need to make sure to call the owners first before you decide to visit.

It's a truly magical place where the sculptures all radiate positive energy. Themes such as life, love, fertility, eroticism and sexuality appear in many of the sculptures, but without appearing intrusive or coarse. The appreciation of the work displayed has a complete new meaning when the artist shares his inspiration with you. It's a must visit!!

I'm going back into the Limassol district now where one winery stood out called Linos Winery in Omodos.

Have you ever heard of a blue wine before?! Well it's a version of white wine accidentally turned blue throughout the making process, but what a unique gift that would make right!

This sixth generation family-owned winery with great views of the vines, has a nice ambience and they have an excellent knowledge about local wine industry.

It's very easy to miss, so if you're a wine enthusiast, get it saved in your list of places to go!

The Kouklia-Stavros Medieval Sugar Mill is another hidden gem just off the A6/B6 in Kouklia. I spotted this driving down the motorway from Paphos, originally thinking it was a small fortress of some kind.

Instead, It features a complex that includes a sugar mill and refineries, showcasing the various sectors involved in processing sugar cane production. You can explore the area easily with the help of boardwalks offering great views of the ancient mill.

This is all accessible via an easy-to-drive dirt road; fenced off but with a gate you can freely open with no admission fee.

There are no information boards around but there's a link in the post with some information and I've attached a diagram at the bottom of the post highlighting some areas within the site too.

Ever heard of a place called Ellēnóspēlioi??

It's a little gem hidden in plain sight found down Theofilou Angeli road in Paphos. You won't be able to gain access since it's fenced off and I wouldn't recommend it as there's no marked path through for visitors!

However, you can appreciate what it looks like via the comfort of your screen.

Unfortunately there isn't any information about the site but, structures and tombs that have a close resemblance to the tomb of the kings in Paphos can be found here.

Next up was Tsangarides Winery, a fantastic place with a selection of tasty wines, paired with a great view in Lemona. Guiding us through the winery and the cellar; they talked through the process of how they make their delicious home-made wine.

Different wine varieties were served as they delved into some history and the notes for each wine; alongside a platter to complement the wine tasting.

Lastly, to finish off the day we then went to a traditional Cypriot sweet shop called Aphrodite Delights in Yeroskipou. It's a family run business established in 1895; with four generations of expertise that have been running the factory and producing the traditional recipe of Aphrodite Delights.

The original old factory established in 1895 by Sophocles Athanasiou is still here, as seen in the photos. Customers can also sample the large variety of freshly made delight flavours.

Links to both websites are within the post and don't forget to book yourself on the Cyprus Taste Tours too!! 🍷🍾🧀

The tour wasn't just a tasting tour either, it was also a cultural one; learning about Cypriot life whilst strolling through some of the villages and meeting the locals. We went to Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery where there is a spectacular view from the balcony. The wine cellar and church were interesting to see too!

"Chrysoroyiatissa is a monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate located about 40 kilometers north-east of Paphos at an altitude of around 820 meters. It was founded by a monk called Ignatius in the 12th century"

The next stop was the Spring of life located in the village of Amargeti, Paphos. Here in a highly traditional atmosphere, you can try dishes such as Cypriot breakfast, traditional meze, slow-cooked lamb in a wood oven (kleftiko) and select Cypriot meals with a twist in the taste and presentation.

Here we specifically learned about carobs in Cyprus. The ripe, dried, and sometimes toasted pod is ground into carob powder, which was used as an substitute for cocoa powder, especially in the 1970s natural food movement. The powder and chips can be used as a chocolate alternative in most recipes.

In Cyprus, the dried and milled carob pods are left to soak in water, before being transferred into special containers; which the carob juice gradually seeps out of and is collected. The juice is then boiled and constantly stirred yielding a thick syrup known as haroupomelo. Although this syrup is frequently sold and eaten as is, haroupomelo is also used as a base for a local toffee-like sweet snack known as pasteli.

In the village of Axylou, Paphos there's a small production unit for dairy products called Axylou traditional halloumi cheese factory 🧀

It's a family-owned business with their own herd who produce halloumi, cheese, yoghurt and anari. You can taste and buy their products in a beautiful space decorated with traditional ancient showpieces.

It's a truly unique experience where you can learn and follow the procedures to create different types of halloumi. So put your hair net and aprin on and have a go!! Don't be shy, you even get a certificate at the end!!

Next on my list to cover is Cyprus Taste Tours, a fantastic touring agency who made our day a very special one. Our tour was 20/02/2024 HALLOUMI HEAVEN with Christina, who me and the girlfriend would like to personally thank for a wonderful time.

In the next few days I will showcase a few places we visited throughout our day. They don't just cover the Paphos region either, so if you're looking for a unique time in Cyprus, look no further.
