The NTA Film & TV and The GALPAL Collective are excited to announce that the Writers Club has officially commenced !

We kicked things off with a welcome session during the first week of the month, where members had the chance to meet, mingle, and connect for the first time.

Last week, we held our first industry session, featuring special guest screenwriter,
director and photographer Ellius Grace (). Ellius shared valuable insights into careers in screenwriting and directing, giving members a glimpse into the creative industries from a professional perspective.

Meet our facilitators for Writers Club 2025 🤩💫

The GALPAL Collective and National Talent Academy Film & TV are delighted to announce the facilitators for this year’s Writers Club: Ian Fallon, Emer Hussey, and Katie Lynch.

As facilitators, they will provide ongoing support and mentorship to Writers Club members, leading weekly writing groups and offering constructive feedback on participants’ projects.

What to expect from Writers Club 2025:
⭐ Weekly writing groups (online & in person) ⭐ Guest-led workshops and writing exercises ⭐ Peer-to-peer feedback and community support ⭐ Monthly in-person socials ⭐ End-of-year networking event for alumni

The Writers Club is a space for writers to develop a short film script while receiving meaningful, well-rounded feedback. The programme is designed to nurture original voices, with a focus on individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.

Submissions close this Friday 5th of September @ 12 noon. 
The Writers Club runs from late September to mid-December. Anyone aged 18 or over with a short film idea or script in development is welcome to apply.

THE WRITERS CLUB 2025 with The GALPAL Collective

The GALPAL Collective and National Talent Academy Film & TV, are delighted to open applications for the 2025 edition of the ever popular Writers Club. ✍️💗

The Writers Club will consist of three writers groups. Each group will have in-person and online meetings to share work with their peers and facilitators weekly. This will include informative sessions regarding the writing process, peer to peer feedback, writing exercises, industry guest-led workshops, provided resources and more.

Once a month the groups will meet for an in-person (optional) social event in Dublin, where all the groups can mingle and form a wider collective of writers. Also, in November, an alumni event will take place for participants of previous terms of the Club to network. The Club will then conclude in December 2025.
The Writers Club will be a space for the writers to develop their skills and short film projects while receiving feedback from an organically diverse range of people and peers. The club aims to create a cultivation of original storytelling that often doesn’t get space to flourish in many development spaces.

All applicants will be asked to submit a short film project idea that they would like to develop and work on as part of the Club.

Dates/Duration: The club will be active from late September- mid December 2025.

It has been almost 5 months since “Directed By Her”. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the Creative Workshop at and our Short Form Programme at the . Thank you to the wonderful Shauna Harris ( ), Anita Ikharo (.mom ) and Rachel Wren () for speaking on their experiences as black actors during the “Black Actors in Focus” panel facilitated by Ashley Chadamoyo Makombe ().

Congratulations to the screenwriters and directors for their awards. we wish them the best in their next project.

The GALPAL Collective is happy to return to Phizzfest 2025 with a curated programme of short films this Sunday 11th @ 7pm at The Pillar Centre, Mater Hospital. Selected films are being curated by The GALPAL Collective centred around the idea of ‘home’.

Have you secured your tickets for the Short Form Programme yet?

Not only is there a curation of short film and music videos, there will also be a panel discussion titled “Black Actors in Focus” exploring the experience of Black Irish actors in film. The Panel will be moderated by Ashley Chadamoyo () and will feature Shauna Harris ( ), Anita Ikharo (.mom ) and Rachel Wren () as panelists.

The short form programme will be held this Wednesday March 26 at @ 6.10pm

Directed By Her - “Creative workshops” is a workshop aimed at filmmakers and creatives who want to improve their understanding of financing and branding within the creative and freelancing context. The workshop will be held on Saturday March 29 at at 3pm.

A member from will offer a financial literacy rundown on all things creative. This will include understanding financial terms and their relevancy to the freelancing world. Ashley Chadamoyo Makombe () will speak on the main strategy to self branding as a creative and its importance to career progression. While Aisha Bolaji () will offer tips on pitching and funding your shorts.

We are happy to announce the full festival programme for Directed By Her. The festival kicks off on March 26th with our annual Short Form Programme at the Irish Film Institute at 6pm. The programme will include curated shorts and a panel discussion titled “Black Actors Focus”. There will also be an audience awards for best short films and music video and best screenplay.

On March 29th, the festival continues with a workshop at Rua Red. The workshop will focus on self-branding and financial literacy, offering valuable guidance for emerging filmmakers.

The festival will conclude on April 3rd with a screening of “The Love Witch”, a comedy-horror film by Japanese-American director Anna Biller. This screening is part of The Bigger Picture.

The GALPAL Collective has been shortlisted for an IMAGE PwC Businesswoman of the Year award for - Diversity & Inclusion Leader of the Year✨

To be recognised for our work alongside the other amazing nominees is an honour. We started this collective as first year college students with ambitions of bringing change to our industry. To create a space that celebrates the work of people that often goes unnoticed, and to support the new generation of creatives in Ireland and all the different stories that comes with that. It’s hard to believe all we have managed to achieve since then.
