Enter the Goodreads Giveaway TODAY to win an e-copy of Women Therapists on Healing!

📚Book Description:
Women Therapists on Healing is a powerful anthology of personal essays from women therapists who know trauma from the inside out. This three-part collection braids lived experience with clinical wisdom, offering a compassionate lens on healing that crosses cultural, generational, and systemic boundaries.

Far beyond a typical guide to navigating PTSD, this book challenges outdated narratives and sheds light on the effects of marginalized topics, such as chronic invisible illness, intergenerational trauma, racism, ritual abuse, and human trafficking.

This book will especially resonate with

· women recovering from trauma;
· healers and advocates seeking growth and guidance;
· health professionals committed to trauma-informed and anti-racist practices;
· friends and family who love and support survivors.

The diverse voices in these essays honor the arduous path of healing as a reckoning, a reclamation, and a sacred reminder that we do not walk alone.

‘I Thought I Wrote 7 Characters. My Editor Said I’d Written 1.’

Our Acorn Publishing Debut Author Prize winner, Kristen Nevarez, is in the revision phase of her first novel Ring By Spring.

In her words, ‘To write is to notice and record. Being a writer means capturing what makes a person tick, or what makes them sound like themselves. To edit is to notice and delete. Being in revision means cutting out the obvious, or what makes dialogue feel like a script.’ With her wit, humor, and voice, Kristen takes us all on a ride on the author side of revision editing. ‘Countdown till pub day: nine months!

We are over-the-moon to reveal this remarkable cover for Ken Kisco’s inspiring nonfiction work No Straight Lines to the Stars!

💫 Book Description 💫

No Straight Lines to the Stars is the inspiring true story of a young lifeguard who dared to believe his life could reach far beyond the horizon.

On the beaches of Southern California, Ken Kisco learned that preparation saves lives. From rip-current rescues to split-second emergencies, he discovered that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act in spite of it. Those early lessons in resilience and composure pushed Ken to believe he could accomplish anything . . . including his lifelong dream of reaching the stars.

Through relentless perseverance and unwavering faith, Ken rose into the heart of America’s most advanced space and defense programs, contributing to human spaceflight initiatives and supporting groundbreaking technologies. His unusual start as a lifeguard helped advance his career, distinguishing him from his Air Force and Navy peers. Yet, his toughest challenges were personal—he faced deep disappointment when a space mission was canceled and learned lessons about trust and integrity from a romance-turned-ruse.

Ken’s journey reveals that success is rarely linear. Setbacks became launchpads, adversity became refinement, and purpose became a compass. Part memoir, part inspiration, and part behind-the-scenes look at America’s quest for the stars, this is the unforgettable story of a man who proves that bold dreams, combined with grit and heart, can launch an ordinary life into an extraordinary one.

Hi Acorns,

The San Diego Writers Festival and the International Memoir Writers Association are both currently looking for a few new board members.

These are wonderful opportunities to get more involved in the writing community. Meetings are held via Zoom and typically last about an hour once a month. For SDWF, meetings become more frequent as we get closer to the April festival.

Both roles are genuinely fun and a meaningful way to connect with and support fellow writers. And while there are no guarantees, being involved in these organizations can naturally open doors and create opportunities to share and promote your work within the community.

If you’re interested in learning more, reach out to Marni Freedman at [email protected].

Warmly,
Holly

World, meet Kristen. Kristen, meet the world.

Kristen is a BIPOC arts journalist, a co-vocational pastor, a SoCal native, and the winner of the Acorn Publishing Debut Author Prize. Ring By Spring, her debut novel out in spring of 2027, is, in her words, ‘for fans of Emily Henry who grew up in youth group. A dual-POV romantic comedy set at a Christian college with a theater student who fast-talks her way into a house with three dudes on the campus worship band, then falls for the midwestern bassist. The tension isn’t just sexual — it’s also theological.’
