Andrews, North Carolina, is a small town with a big heart. Located in Cherokee County, this charming community offers a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and down-to-earth hospitality that makes it a hidden gem in Western North Carolina.

Andrews is surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Nantahala National Forest, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re hiking along picturesque trails, fishing in the pristine waters of the Valley River, or enjoying a peaceful picnic at one of the many scenic spots, Andrews provides countless opportunities to connect with nature. For adventure seekers, it’s also a gateway to nearby whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, a thrilling experience that draws visitors from across the country.

The town itself is a blend of historic charm and modern appeal. Andrews’ downtown area features locally-owned shops, cozy cafes, and family-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy everything from hearty Southern cooking to unique artisan goods. The community regularly hosts events like farmers' markets, craft fairs, and seasonal festivals, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

Andrews is also a town steeped in history. The area was originally home to the Cherokee people, and the town’s heritage is deeply tied to their culture. Over time, Andrews became a hub for agriculture, timber, and the railroad industry, which played a significant role in its development. Today, visitors can still feel echoes of the past in the town’s architecture and its connection to the land.

With a population of just over 1,500 people, it’s a place where neighbors know each other by name, and newcomers are greeted with open arms. Life moves a little slower in Andrews, giving residents and visitors alike the chance to savor the simple joys of mountain living.

If you’re looking for a getaway that offers stunning natural surroundings, a sense of history, and genuine Appalachian hospitality, Andrews is the perfect destination.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has received a report of someone impersonating a police officer. The vehicle is reportedly a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a tinted tag cover.

The suspect is reported to be a white male, smaller in stature with brown hair. The suspect was wearing a gray and dark blue uniform with a vest containing a radio and handcuffs.

This incident occurred on US19 just south of NC141. Citizens are reminded that patrol deputies with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office are uniformed with the distinctive county patch shown above. Non-uniformed members will have a clearly visible badge and rarely conduct traffic stops, but do occasionally.

The same applies to Alcohol Law Enforcement. If you are ever concerned for your safety, please call 911, indicate by a turn signal and travel to a well-lit area.
