Update12/23/24: The Pennington County Sheriff’s continues to work with OST Law Enforcement to diligently investigate this incident. The initial report was that this damage was caused by a gunshot. However, after reviewing video from the bus, conducting follow-up interviews, and a thorough search for additional evidence, it cannot be confirmed that a gunshot was the cause of the damage to the bus or that the damage was even intentional. We are continuing to work to identify and speak with the owners and occupants of what is believed to a dark colored SUV that passed the bus on the bridge near mile marker 75 on East Highway 44 (see photos). Additionally, we are working to conduct follow-up interviews with the occupants of the bus and their parents. If you have additional information or were a witness to this incident, please contact Investigator Thomas Mossman at (605) 394-6115.
“The Sheriff’s Office is treating this investigation with the utmost seriousness and priority, working diligently to gather all the facts and ensure a thorough and accurate resolution,” says Sheriff Brian Mueller.
