Due to the severe unemployment and inflation in Germany at the time, the producers easily found 500 children to participate in the film's flooding sequences.
Brigitte Helm, who played Maria and her robotic counterpart, endured significant discomfort while wearing the robot costume.
The outfit caused her cuts and bruises, yet Fritz Lang insisted she continue wearing it.
Although Lang enjoyed making the film, he later admitted he wasn't fond of the finished product.
Set in the year 2026, 'Metropolis' features a dramatic
"flooding underground" scene, which took three weeks to shoot. Lang, known for his meticulous nature, insisted on perfection, keeping the water at a constantly low temperature, which severely impacted the health of the actors involved.
