These last few days, they’ve weighed on me. Every single time I see something about this man, and think about what happened to him, in front of his wife and children, I can’t help but see my own young daughter when I see his, and that….that really wrecks me. I have never been more sad over the death of someone I did not know, than I am now. The dehumanization of people you don’t agree with needs to end. The flippant attitudes toward violence over words and political views needs to end. More people need to look at this picture and see their loved ones in these people’s places, put themselves in the shoes of those pictured or their friends and family. More people need to look at this picture and see themselves. Even if it’s hard to do for some reason, make yourself. More people need to look at this picture and feel empathy. Those children, they did nothing to deserve this. They’re not even old enough to truly hurt yet because they’re not even old enough to understand what happened. Their true hurt, it comes later and will last the rest of their lives. Evil, that’s what infected the mind of the one who pulled that trigger, the minds of all those celebrating his actions, and sadly the hearts and minds of so many more. This isn’t a political post, a religious post, or anything else that might rustle your jimmies. This is a human post. I’m trying to appeal to whatever humanity you have. Make this s**t stop. It’s up to you. No one else, not thought leaders, not politicians, you. It’s your decision to stop walking through your days with hate in your heart. We can all do better. For the sake of our nations children, I’m begging you to end the hate, and realize we’re all in this together, even if we disagree on some things. And remember, an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. I choose to see. See you, beyond the surface level difference, myself beyond my bias and faults. I choose light, love for my neighbor, and gratitude for every blessing that comes my way by the hands of my neighbor or the creator of all things. I hope, for the sake of my own children and everyone else’s ,you choose to do the same.
