Silver Elite by Dani Francis

What is the book about? Wren Darlington has spent her whole life keeping her psychic abilities a secret from everyone around her because those with power have a death sentence. When she accidentally lets some of her abilities show around the wrong people she finds herself forced into the most elite military training program, she decides it’s time to try to take down the Company from the inside.

What did I think? I definitely do not think this book deserves the bad rap that it has been getting! I had so much fun reading this book. Were there a good amount of predictable points? Sure. But was there some great spice, tension, humor, action, emotion? YES! Not everything needs to be prize worthy to be entertaining. Sometimes we can just have fun reading, okay? This book gave me a bit of Fourth Wing vibes and it was fun to get that feeling again and I hope the future books continue to take us on this wild ride. I loved Wren and her sass, and I hope she just continues to grow into her own and give us lots of fun drama to come. I absolutely wanted to hate Cross at the beginning (just like Wren) but I definitely found myself falling for him faster than Wren did. We always love a man in uniform, am I right? Just like in a lot of fantasy books, the side characters really kept this book alive and I hope we continue to see a lot of them in future books. Big Kaine fan over here, personally. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

•Book 1 in the A Song of Ice and Fire series•

What is the book about? The Starks of Winterfell find themselves among a deadly battle for the throne when the Hand of the King is mysteriously dead and Ned Stark is called upon to take up the position for his old friend, the King. Everyone wants power and we are weaved through a series of points of views in the battle and games and sacrifices one is willing to make to get the throne.

What did I think? I have seen the HBO series so I knew everything that was going to happen as it was a truly faithful adaptation. I had tried to start reading the kindle books a few months back but I couldn’t get that invested since I knew it already. But listening to it was an absolutely wonderful experience. I could picture the scenes in my head while doing dishes or working out and just enjoy it. I can’t wait to go on as soon as it’s available on Libby! 😅 It is truly wild to go back to the beginning of this series and remember how absolutely insufferable some people are… looking at you Joffrey 👀. And honestly, Sansa, too. Stop revolving your entire life around that scum. It is insane to me how well the story weaves together despite all the different POV’s. It’s so fun to get little pieces and tidbits as you enter all the different perspectives. This book truly has so much with all the romance and battle and betrayal and I can’t wait to continue this wild ride.

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

What is the book about? Hannah Brooks doesn’t look the part, but she is one of the absolute best at her Executive Protection Agency. She is hired to protect the very handsome and very famous Jack Stapleton when he returns home to his families’ ranch in Texas. The only catch is that he doesn’t want to stress his sick mother out any more than necessary so he doesn’t want to explain why he has a bodyguard. They must lie and pretend Hannah is his new girlfriend so no one will be the wiser.

What did I think? Katherine Center is definitely my new go to when I need a good giggle and kick your feet romance. I love the banter and the flirting and the tension. Do I love me some s**t? Yes. But do I also just want the light and flirty and fun? Oh yes. The premise drew me right in and had me laughing the whole time about Corgi lady and everyone underestimating Hannah all the time. Jack Stapleton is a dreamboat and I will accept no criticism on the man. Did I expect his character to be semi-awful? Yes. But I was pleasantly surprised. And Connie Stapleton is by far the MVP of the series, followed by the cows and Clipper. RIP Bobby, you won’t be missed.

The Perfect Divorce by Jeneva Rose

•Book 2 of the Perfect series•

What is the book about? Eleven years after Sarah Morgan defended her first husband in court for the murder of his mistress, she finds herself married to another cheater. She files for divorce without a second thought, and a separation seems easy enough until new DNA evidence calls into question the case against Adam and her second husband’s one-night-stand goes missing.

What did I think? Screaming, crying, throwing up! I don’t know what exactly Jeneva puts in her books but they are truly book drugs. I cannot put them down once I start so I make sure I have the time to consume it in full before I even start. I didn’t have a clue how Jeneva was going to improve upon all the twists and turns from book 1 and was honestly nervous about a sequel but she BROUGHT IT. This one was honestly better than The Perfect Marriage and I’m so obsessed. I loved all the different perspectives and all the twists and manipulation is absolutely delightful. I am also so happy that I am a person who reads acknowledgements because my jaw is on the FLOOR at the true end of this book. Can’t wait for what’s still to come from one of my absolute favorite authors!

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

What is the book about? Alice Scott is invited to a mysterious small town for the chance to write the biography of one of the most famous and mysterious women of the twentieth century. When she arrives she finds out she is not the only person in the running for the job. She’s given one month to compete with Hayden Anderson, Pulitzer-prize winning author, for the opportunity.

What did I think? This book had everything. Was it a mystery, was it a romance, was the story even about one singular romance? You’ll have to read and find out. I was so drawn in to both stories. I was waffling between 4 stars and 5 stars but then the last line of the book pushed me into the 5 star camp and I refuse to go back. This book is for sure not like Emily Henry’s others but we absolutely love to see it. Authors are more than welcome to grow and change and explore new things but if you’re looking for pure light and fluff this is probably not for you. This book explores life and trauma and connection in all these truly beautiful ways. Do I still hate Margaret a bit by the end? Yes, but I try to remind myself that no one is perfect and that’s literally a point of the book. But Alice? And Hayden, who is pictured as Hayden Christiansen in my mind and I refuse to change? They are both perfection and I absolutely adore the journey they took together.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

What is the book about? Olive Torres has had bad luck her entire life, until the day of her twin sister’s wedding when the roles reverse and suddenly she finds herself as one of two lucky guests who doesn’t get food poisoning. When everyone else is so sick, her sister begs her to take her free honeymoon so it doesn’t go to waste. The only problem, the only other person not nearly on their death bed is the Best Man, Ethan Thomas, who Olive absolutely cannot stand.

What did I think? This book had so many laugh out loud moments and it also might have been because of how much I had going on with life while I was reading this one so I couldn’t immerse myself in it but it didn’t draw me in quite as much as The Paradise Problem. But it still was so much fun and I loved the deeper look at the existence of luck or just coincidence. I loved seeing Olive evolve over the course of the story, as I’m not a huge fan of a grumpy single POV… I need more sunshine in my life than that! Ethan was a great foil to Olive and for those who hate a miscommunication trope, you’ll love this book because their open and clear communication is to die for!

The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell

•Book 2 in The Family Upstairs series•

What is the book about? DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the Thames when a set of human bones is found. When he starts to investigate, he discovers that the remains are most likely related to a gruesome and interesting cold case from nearly 30 years prior. Rachel Rimmer has also received news that her husband’s body has been found in the cellar of his home in France, causing her to unpack the events of the past year of her life. Henry Lamb is determined to find the object of his obsession and goes searching for Phin.

What did I think? This book did not go at all how I expected it to and I absolutely love that I was so surprised every step of the way. I don’t know why I am rooting for the people who have done awful things? But maybe it’s because they did awful things for good reasons? Truly wild, the way my head feels after this one. It was awesome to get answers to things left unresolved in the first book and so fun to have new POV’s to explore. I absolutely loved Rachel’s character progression, we are most definitely Rachel stan’s in this house. Was the first book better? Most definitely. But, if you want a series that really messes with your head, look no further!

Bridesmaid by Chance by Meghan Quinn

•Book 3 in the Bridesmaid series•

What is the book about? Sloane and Hudson have both managed to keep their attraction hidden from the other until one day they strike up a deal to get married to help them both. Hudson needs a wife to get into a private club to secure a business deal, and Sloane could use a large check to help her keep her childhood home. When they are forced into close proximity to attend a destination wedding, keeping their hands off each other is harder than they expected.

What did I think? This book continued on with the hilarity that has kept me coming back for this Bridesmaid series. So many moments in this book truly made me laugh out loud from the pure ridiculousness of them. I absolutely loved Sloane and her take-no-sh*t attitude. It has been a while since I’ve read the first book so I can’t remember if we got to see more of her back then? Hudson is as much of a tight wad as you can remember and it’s so fun to watch him soften up through Sloane’s persistence and her hilarious personality. This was as close as I feel like I’ll be lucky enough to get to reading about my own romance as it is a 13 year age gap workplace romance so it definitely was extra close to my heart because of that! I am so sad to say goodbye to this amazing series and these hilarious characters but I can’t wait to go back and revisit them again soon! 🤍

Fearless by Lauren Roberts

•Book 3 of the Powerless series•

What is the book about? Paedyn Gray has returned to the kingdom of Ilya and is being given a choice: to enter into a marriage she doesn’t want for the good of the kingdom, or die. Kai Azer is determined to find some way to not have to watch the woman he loves marry another, no matter what dark secrets he may uncover along the way.

What did I think? Overall I enjoyed the ending of this trilogy, but I definitely found myself confused at times, I think is the best way to put it. The ending confused me and kind of seemed rushed in my personal opinion. I deeply enjoyed the first half of the book and getting back to the trials and a bit of the feel of the first book again, since it was by far my favorite of the series, this felt really good. Felt like coming home. And then it just felt a little cobbled together. And the twists gave me the ick… and sometimes felt forced… I don’t want to spoil anything but if you’ve read it we can chat 😂 I still enjoyed it as a whole but I definitely can’t say it was a perfect and completely satisfying ending. I just feel like overall I wanted more. I wanted things to be more and mean more and everything felt kind of small by the end. I probably make no sense but whatever, this is my review. 😂 I wanted Paedyn to be grateful for her powerlessness MUCH sooner than the last few chapters but, I was at least very glad when we finally got there. Kai, at least, stayed consistently a dreamboat the whole way through. And Kitt, you deserved better my sweet boy.

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

•Book 1 in The Family Upstairs series•

What is the book about? Libby Jones receives a letter on her 25th birthday that changes her entire life. She learns in this letter that she is the sole inheritor of her birth parents estate and has been left their abandoned home in Chelsea. She has no idea the dark things that went on in that home that led to their deaths and the disappearance of the other children who lived there, but she’s about to find out.

What did I think? The twists kept coming and coming and they kept me on my toes. I started this book off way confused about the POV changes but once I caught on to the different narrators and time jumps this book would not stop flowing. I could hardly put it down and focus on life. The people who can come up with these stories simultaneously amaze me and terrify me. But I guess the more terrifying thing is that this could easily be a true story. The writing is so incredible in the way it completely captivated me and also make me laugh in the middle of the darkest moments. Insane, incredible, I’m nervous about a sequel so I hope it holds up… and answers remaining questions.
