A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin

•Book 2 in the A Song of Ice and Fire series•

What is the book about? The king has died and the battle for the iron throne is spreading to all seven kingdoms. Families are turning against each other as everyone’s lust for power is reaching fever pitch and the effects are rippling throughout the whole kingdom.

What did I think? Boy book 2 is a heck of a lot weaker than book 1. I don’t understand how so much can be going on while… nothing is going on? I remember not liking season 2 as much as season 1 of the show and I understand why now. So much is happening but it’s still so boring. I know it’s necessary to keep the story going but boy do I hate a lot of people and want them to hurry up and die. Also I’m very ready for Sansa to grow up and stop being so WHINY. Alright… I might take a break from this series for a bit. We will see if I have the energy to come back. Still a great narrator though! All his many voices are top tier!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

•Book 2 in the Harry Potter series•

What is the book about? Harry Potter has been absolutely miserable during his summer away from Hogwarts and his friends. He receives a sinister warning that there is great danger awaiting his return to school and he should not go back. He ignores the warnings and turns out the predictions are true and students keep mysteriously being attacked and turned as if to stone.

What did I think? Man I wish I had read these books as a child because I’m sure these twists HIT HARD! Since I already know what’s coming from the movies it’s not quite as dramatic but the twists and turns are still great! I absolutely love the continued development between Harry, Ron and Hermione. I love how much more obvious it is in the books that they pretty much reluctantly become friends with Hermione. I truly love seeing Harry find real love and care when he hasn’t had that for so long. Enjoyed this book more than book 1 simply based on the fact that there were LESS OF THE STUPID DURSLEYS. Let’s just write them out of the story now, please and thank you.

Magnolia Parks: Into the Dark by Jessa Hastings

•Book 5 in the Magnolia Parks Universe•

What is the book about? After an unimaginable loss, Magnolia and BJ are forced to look their demons in the eyes and finally work through all of the drama. They have to decide if their love for each other truly can conquer everything and everyone else that wants to see them torn apart.

What did I think? This book took me on a total roller coaster of emotions and I am truly in love with these messy, toxic characters at this point and I don’t want this to be the end! I need like 16 more of this mess please! I was fighting tears in parking lots throughout this book. The processing of grief and trauma and the emotional journeys these characters took were absolutely beautiful, raw and real. I will be counting down the days until I get to return to this world (ya hear me, Jessa?! Gimme MORE!) The messages and emotions are going to stick with me for a while on this one. They are messy but they are real and they are working on themselves and we love to see it.

Magnolia Parks: The Long Way Home by Jessa Hastings

•Book 3 in the Magnolia Parks Universe•

What is the book about? A year has passed since that fateful day on the steps of the Mandarin Oriental and Magnolia and BJ’s lives have drastically changed. Magnolia now lives in New York and seems to have settled in nicely with new friends and boyfriends. BJ has also finally taken blame for the things he’s done and has started therapy and is in a healthy new relationship. When circumstances bring Magnolia back to London and they are finally in the same town again, they both must face the reality that their love for each other still remains.

What did I think? I will be needing 5-7 business days to process that ending THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Also I don’t know if I’ve said it before about this series but these are TOP TIER audiobooks. The emotion and voice acting these readers put in is unmatched. We also Stan a dual narration. But, we can’t be happy for 5 seconds in this series, huh? These people are still extremely toxic but I love them and care about them and want what’s best for them and I am absolutely heartbroken now. I thought the Daisy Haites books were going to be better and I would love them more but after this one I think Magnolia Parks is where it’s at. These idiots have weaseled their way into my heart and I don’t want to let them go. They suck, but they are wonderful. I have never met a series that is more of a mindf*** but I love it. Magnolia and BJ forever. Could still do without the outfits being constantly described (why I loved Daisy more) but I won’t let it knock a star off… this time.😈

Daisy Haites by Jessa Hastings

•Book 2 in the Magnolia Parks Universe•

What is the book about? Daisy Haites has always wanted a normal life but when you’re the heiress to London’s most notorious crime family, that’s impossible. She meets and falls for Christian Hemmes, one of the only men in town who doesn’t work for her brother. Christian is more than happy to spend his time with her to distract himself from the feelings he’s hiding for his best friend’s girlfriend. But he can’t help falling for Daisy too.

What did I think? This series is beyond addictive. I have no idea what it is but I can’t stop, won’t stop. The drama, the pinning, the tension… I could cut it all with a knife it’s so thick and wonderful and I’m so obsessed. Give me 50,000 more! I adored Daisy through the majority of this book, she is sweet and wonderful but also knows how to hold her own against all these boys she’s surrounded by. Christian… oh sweet baby Christian… you deserve so much better. That’s all I’m going to say. I’m dying for your happy ending. Jessa did you so dirty. And Julian… I had a major crush on you until the end. I love a bad boy.. but not that bad. I literally have no idea how we are going to resolve the dumpster fires we keep ending these books with but… let’s go find out!

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

•Book 1 in the Cerulean Chronicles•

What is the book about? Linus Baker always does everything by-the-book. When he’s sent on a very classified assignment to determine whether an orphanage for magical youth should remain open, he has no idea just how unique this assignment will be. Arther Parnassus is the mysterious master of the orphanage and it is clear to Linus on Day 1 that he would do absolutely everything to keep the children in his care safe.

What did I think? I went into this story pretty blind and I’m so happy I did. It was not at all what I was expecting and so much better! This is the perfect little cozy fantasy that made me laugh so hard at times but also gave me so many warm fuzzies. It is the actual definition of found family in the best way. I fell in love with each individual character and the book was over way too fast. I know there’s a sequel and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get to go right back to the sea! The audiobook narrator was top notch and I’d highly recommend listening! If you want a great feel good story with lots of humor and LGBTQ+ rep then look no further!

The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

•Book 1 in The Stonewater Kingdom series•

What is the book about? Sybil Delling has spent the last 9 years in service as a Diviner, forced to dream and receive visions from the Omens and interpret them for the visitors of the Tor. Her service is almost over, and she longs to be free. But when her sister Diviners begin to disappear one by one she knows she must quickly discover the truth of what’s happening if they stand any chance. She turns to the handsome mysterious knight for help because the best person to help her beat a god, is a heretic.

What did I think? This book truly spoke to my soul and healed and changed me. I am a different person after reading this book and I love it. Infinity stars. No notes. As someone who has gone on and, honestly still is on, her faith deconstruction and reconstruction journey, this book was so well done. I am in awe. I would love to have a long chat with Rachel about her inspiration for this story. Did I see the big twist of the ending coming? Absolutely. But I was BEGGING the author the whole time not to let it happen. She didn’t listen. Anyways, Sybil is one of my all time favorite FMC’s to date. Her love and kindness and resilience is unmatched. I hope she continues to find herself in all this undoing and that she becomes the very best version of herself by the end. Rory, you’re an absolute dreamboat. Let’s go frolic in the forest. The gargoyle is the absolute best secondary character ever written. I will forever be in love with the most hilarious bat-like creature made of stone. Give me 5000 more, please and thank you.

The Women by Kristin Hannah

What is the book about? Frankie McGrath decides that not only men can be heroes and follows her brother off to war. She enlists to be an Army Nurse and is thrown into a world she never could have prepared for. Things are even worse when she returns home expecting to be praised for all of her hard work and dedication to her country and instead is shunned by those in America who have been told lies by the press.

What did I think? Perfection. No notes. This book completely changed me in the best way. It was a rough read because it is meant to be, reality isn’t full of happily ever afters. I constantly wanted things to go different ways but that isn’t reality. But love gets us through all. The history is important. Our veterans are even more important. The journey was raw and beautiful and heartbreaking in the best way. This one will stick with me for a long, long time. The audiobook is phenomenal, I highly recommend. A beautiful tribute to all women and the importance of female friendships and the bravery that so many have shown.

Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry

What is the book about? Odessa was never meant to be the chosen daughter to appease an ancient blood treaty and marry and rule a foreign kingdom. That fate was always meant for her brave and powerful younger sister. When the prince strolls into her father’s throne room and chooses her to pay the bride price instead, everyone is shocked. She must travel to a foreign land and learn their secrets to hopefully help her kingdom back home survive the powerful monsters coming soon.

What did I think? This book was a great start and I can tell it has so much potential for the rest of the series! I have all the faith in the world for where it’s going but right now I’m quite a bit confused! It might be on purpose since our FMC is in the dark on a lot of things still at this point so it makes sense that because she is our lens then we are kept in the dark on a lot of things too. It’s probably intentional but I wish we would have had more answers by this point, personally. I am definitely invested and ready to get all my answers though. I adored Odessa from Page 1 and I appreciated that she wasn’t the typical damsel in distress and then suddenly the greatest warrior to ever walk the land within 5 training sessions. She improved, but not an unbelievable amount. Zavier was a wet blanket, sorry not sorry. And I wanted bigger twists at the end but maybe we will get those at the beginning of book two!

Silver Elite by Dani Francis

What is the book about? Wren Darlington has spent her whole life keeping her psychic abilities a secret from everyone around her because those with power have a death sentence. When she accidentally lets some of her abilities show around the wrong people she finds herself forced into the most elite military training program, she decides it’s time to try to take down the Company from the inside.

What did I think? I definitely do not think this book deserves the bad rap that it has been getting! I had so much fun reading this book. Were there a good amount of predictable points? Sure. But was there some great spice, tension, humor, action, emotion? YES! Not everything needs to be prize worthy to be entertaining. Sometimes we can just have fun reading, okay? This book gave me a bit of Fourth Wing vibes and it was fun to get that feeling again and I hope the future books continue to take us on this wild ride. I loved Wren and her sass, and I hope she just continues to grow into her own and give us lots of fun drama to come. I absolutely wanted to hate Cross at the beginning (just like Wren) but I definitely found myself falling for him faster than Wren did. We always love a man in uniform, am I right? Just like in a lot of fantasy books, the side characters really kept this book alive and I hope we continue to see a lot of them in future books. Big Kaine fan over here, personally. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!
