Fever Dream by Elsie Silver

•Book 1 in the Emerald Lake series•

What is the book about? Emmett Bush is the last person that would possibly be looking for love, but when a dating show is begging them to be their bachelor and is willing to pay him and his family an obscene amount of money that could save their ranch, it’s an opportunity he can’t pass up. He’s certain that he can play the part and pretend to be interested in the women and collect the check every week. The last thing he expects is to develop feelings… too bad it’s not one of the cast, but one of the crew.

What did I think? I finished this book in 2 days, it was SO GOOD! It had some cowboy aspects but not too much, which was perfect for me since I’ve come to realize is not my favorite. The humor in this one was great and having it be centered around a cowboy-bachelor dating show? A dream since the bachelor used to be a personal obsession of mine. The chemistry between Julia and Emmett was palpable from the moment they met. And having Emmett be her brother’s main rival?? *chef’s kiss*. Also I would love a prequel of the love story between Emmett’s grandparents, they truly stole the show more than once! Also I have discovered that Teddy Hamilton is one of my all time favorite audiobook narrators so if he could just… record them all from now on? That would be ideal, thank you for your attention to this matter.

What is the book about? Wren’s cover has been blown among the Silver Elite. She has finally found a place among her people, but she’s finding it hard to fully trust them as secrets and lies seem to abound here just like with the Company. Wren must finally decide where her loyalties lie and which side she wants to fight for. And that may include having to give up the one she loves the most.

What did I think? While I desperately want to give this book 5 stars because I breezed through it and couldn’t put it down, I can’t because it was mostly because I wanted to hurry up and get through the stupid plot line going on. Normally Love Triangles don’t anger me so much but this one? Goodness I thought about throwing my kindle against a wall multiple times. I’m so invested in this damn story though that I have to see it through. If Wren could have grown the eff up faster and been able to see past her own hand then maybe we wouldn’t have ended up in multiple of these freaking situations?! This book was miles better than the first one though and I’m very excited to see what happens next, I do appreciate that Wren was not quite as childish even being so stupid and there were so many twists and turns that constantly had my jaw on the floor so I had a great time reading and honestly what more can you ask for?? The magic system is fascinating, the political intrigue is politicking. I’m in.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

What is the book about? Leni’s father came back from Vietnam a very changed man, he’s constantly chasing the perfect life for his family and when he believes that life lies in Alaska, he immediately hits the road. Leni and her family soon realize they are in over their heads and they must quickly catch up to what’s needed from them to live off the land. They are warned of the harsh winters to come in Alaska and despite doing everything they can to prepare, nothing could have prepared them for the dangers that lie in their own home in the endless dark.

What did I think? I couldn’t put this one down! And while I had lots of house work to do that kept me needing an audiobook to keep me company on, I was just beyond enthralled with the story. And if someone could stop letting me listen to Kristin Hannah books during the Luteal phase that would be freaking awesome. I’m going to blame that for the fact that I did not, in fact, make it out of this book alive either. I’m pretty sure Kristin Hannah is just swimming in a river of her readers tears at this point. She loves to write beautiful stories that WRECK US. Matthew my love, never change. You are too perfect for the real world. Leni, you deserved better my dear. Some wildly rough topics are dealt with in this one, but I appreciate the way they were handled. I know this story is far too real for too many people.

A Parade of Horribles by Matt Dinniman

What is the book about? As chaos is thriving outside the dungeon due to the results of Faction Wars, Carl and Donut are confused by the simplicity they now face. They have made it to the tenth floor of the dungeon and the rules are extremely easy. They must race other NPCs and Players from one place to another and they better not come in last. It can’t be that simple… can it?

What did I think? Easily the best in the series. I had the absolute time of my life with this one. Did I laugh a ton? Yes. Did I cry a ton? Yes. HORRIBLES is in the title. Of course it had some horrible parts in it but in the most beautiful of ways. This rag tag crew has completely stolen my heart and the amount of stress I felt going into this book was unmatched. We only have 2 books left of this series and I’m not sure if Matt Dinniman is going to be gentle with us or if he’s going to absolutely ruin us? It could easily go either way and I’m TERRIFIED. Jeff Hays is an absolute legend, as always. I still don’t know how anyone possibly just reads the physical copy of these books. This series wouldn’t even be close to the same without his performance. Jeff and Matt are the dream team and I will be their unpaid cheerleaders until the day I die. If you still haven’t started this series WHAT ARE YOU DOING????

What is the book about? Renley Gossage is desperate to change the towns perception of her and fulfill her dream of bringing new life into the small town’s candy shop. When a mix up makes her realize that she doesn’t have the money for the renovations, she applies for funding on what she thinks is a website to find someone to invest. Little does she know, she’s actually signing up for a fiancé… and Theo won’t rest until she says yes to his proposal.

What did I think? I don’t know what drug Meghan puts into these silly summer romances but they constantly have me crying with laughter throughout. This one was so hilarious yet also so sincere at the same time. I adored Theo from the first moment he appeared, his banter with Rupert was unmatched. I love a good set of best friends, especially ones who are so comfortable with their masculinity. I loved the way that Theo slowly pulled Renley out of her shell and made her a brighter person. I always love when they don’t CHANGE the other person, they just bring more joy to their lives. It’s beautiful 🥹! This one is for sure going to make my top 5 Meghan Quinn books.

A Fatal Crossing by Tom Hindle

What is the book about? A man is found dead at the bottom of a staircase aboard the Endeavor, during its sailing from England to New York. The captain of the ship immediately declares the death a tragic accident, but a Scotland Yard detective happens to be on board and is determined there is more to the crime that meets the eye. The captain allows him to investigate, but only if he agrees to do so with one of the ships officer’s at his side.

What did I think? I did not, in a million years, see that ending coming. What a twist!! I totally probably should have seen it coming but I was just along for the ride. I constantly was suspecting someone new for the crime and constantly so confused on how it all could have happened and how everything could tie together. Who knew the art world could be such a cutthroat business? The twists were twisting, the secrets were damning. It was a fun, mysterious adventure across the sea.

These nails screamed Seven Year Slip to me, but (a crime) I don’t own a physical copy of it! This most recent release from Ashley Poston wrecked me in all the beautiful ways that her work always does. A beautiful, perfect read.

I don’t know how many times is socially acceptable to thank audiobooks for helping me crush my reading goals? Just tell me when enough is enough, please! But the fact that I can actually accomplish keeping my messy house clean and get to enjoy all these great books?! Incredible. I also had one fantastic ARC and one ARC that constantly had me wildly confused… I’ll let you piece together which is which.

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

What is the book about? Elsa Wolcott is long past her prime and isn’t sure she will ever find love when she has a chance encounter with Rafe Martinelli. When her parents find out, they disown her and leave her with the Martinelli’s to be their problem now. When the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl hits home, they find they have no choice but to travel west, to hopefully find a better life for her children.

What did I think? Damn it, I can never make it through one of these books alive! Just when I think I might make it through without crying my eyes out, I hit the part of the book that absolutely breaks me. This book really hit home for me about the resilience of the American people. I never knew or researched much about the Great Depression or the Dust Bowl but this book I feel like did a really great job representing that time and it really resonated with a lot of things that our going on in America in our day and age. But it was a great reminder that we as a people are resilient and that we have been through tough times before and we will get through them again. You just need to remember to hold on to those you love and keep them close and that we all need to work together for the greater good. It’s also a reminder to be a warrior and fight for the voiceless. I’m a puddle, but this book brings me HOPE.
