Dating After the End of the World by Jeneva Rose

What is the book about? Casey Pearson grew up forced to help her doomsday-prepping father build his compound for the unlikely event that the world ends. When she turned 18, she left home and swore she would never return to the home and the dark memories it brings. When a decade passes, Casey is shocked when her father turns out to be right and an illness leaves its victims zombie-like. With nothing and no one else to turn to, Casey returns home only to find her father has taken in the enemy, her high school bully.

What did I think? This book was so fun and honestly the perfect one to dive into for spooky season! Gave a little splash of The Walking Dead/The Last of Us. All those good zombie shows we know and love. Had so much banter and feel good moments but also moments to make you gasp and jump! I was constantly on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. Casey was a freaking awesome character who wasn’t willing to take s**t from anyone after everything she had been through and it was so heartwarming to watch her journey. I would like to protest the ending of this book, I can understand it but I don’t have to like it. If there is not a sequel, I WILL be rioting at dawn though. Thank you for your time.

Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland

•Book 1 in The Broken Blades series•

What is the book about? 5 strangers are brought together under one common goal: to kill the king. The plan won’t work without every single one of them, but can they trust one another? They all have hidden secrets and motivations but at least they can agree on one thing… the king must die.

What did I think? When I first started this book I was so confused with all the jumping POV’s but once I figured out who everyone was and started connecting dots I was so totally invested. This book constantly had my mind spinning trying to figure out everyone’s secrets. I loved the subplot romances and how they were just enough to keep you invested in them but the real driving force of the story was the murder plot and it was so fascinating. Aeri and Royo were my personal favorites and their connection was so sweet. I was blown away with all the plot twists and never saw them coming! The book breezed by and I can’t wait to finish the rest of the series.

A Long Time Coming by Meghan Quinn

•Book 3 in the Cane Brothers series•

What is the book about? Breaker and Lia have been best friends for over a decade now and have always been nothing more than platonic. Breaker is absolutely shocked when Lia tells him she’s engaged and getting married in 5 short weeks. He jumps on board to be her “man of honor” and helps with all the wedding planning. But with all the time they are spending planning her wedding to another man, Breaker is starting to realize he may feel more for her than he ever realized.

What did I think? I adored this book so much. It had so much humor and so much love that it truly just gave me warm fuzzies. And then you add in the tension and the spice and you have a fantastic time. The love between Breaker and Lia is overwhelming and the fact that anyone would even remotely think they could come between that? Brave. I absolutely love the brotherly love that the Cane brothers have with each other and how important that family love is emphasized throughout this series. Breaker is easily my favorite Cane brother and I will die on this hill, thank you very much. Disneyland is in this book making this book even more magical and I would push this book on everyone I know just for that fact alone.

Together they are racing against the ticking clock to save everyone they know and love before the prophecy completely unravels and magic disappears forever and King Benedict wins.

What did I think? My jaw is on the floor and I am sat. I have been so obsessed with these characters and this story since the very beginning and this third book was absolutely no exception. I am so addicted. The next book is supposed to be the last and I don’t know if my heart is going to be able to handle it! I don’t want to let them go yet! The story has so much flow, and with the addition of the romance being so so so so so slow and burning you just easily breeze right through the story dying to get to the end to see what happens. I’m pretty sure the actual timeline of this book was only about a week yet literally everything changed?? It feels like I just lived a lifetime along with these characters in the best way. If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you doing? It’s hilarious, tension filled, and full of heart and the most adorable frog. RUN AND READ IT!

Light Bringer by Pierce Brown

•Book 6 in the Red Rising series•

What is the book about? Darrow is exhausted from all the battles he has fought in, but he knows the war is still not over yet until every single human is free. He must rally with all those he loves to come together and keep fighting for what they know is right and bring the future they have dreamed of to fruition. Lysander is rising up and gaining power to fight back and restore the supremacy of the Golds.

What did I think? I thought this was the end… it is not. But I did enjoy this one more than Dark Age!! The action was more happening throughout and there was at least SOME joy going on, rather than just sadness and pain. Literally still terrified for Darrow and Sevro throughout because if one of them ever dies, I’m OUT. So I guess if I don’t read the next book when it comes out, that’ll be a spoiler but for now 👀 guess you have to wait and see. I’m excited to move on to a few lower stakes books after this but this book definitely kept me invested and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. But genuinely, this series is as long as Tr*mp’s presidency with all this pain and suffering.

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

What is the book about? Present Day Macy is comfortable in her little bubble and has finally moved on from that tragic New Year’s Day 11 years ago. When she runs into Elliot all these years later, she can hardly process all the thoughts and emotions racing through her. We learn the story of their past and reconnection simultaneously as Macy fights to decide what path she wants her future to take.

What did I think? This one gave me major It Ends With Us vibes only without all the trauma. I went into this one open minded because I knew it wouldn’t be like other Christina Lauren books I’ve read. This one has a much more emotional and serious vibe and not as many laugh out loud moments as I’m used to with them. This book is a beautiful experience but I definitely struggled with some aspects. I loved Elliot but Macy gave me the ick on more than one occasion. Was still a beautiful, moving read. I just wish a few aspects had been handled differently. I definitely appreciated the parts that read like a love story to books.

A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin

•Book 2 in the A Song of Ice and Fire series•

What is the book about? The king has died and the battle for the iron throne is spreading to all seven kingdoms. Families are turning against each other as everyone’s lust for power is reaching fever pitch and the effects are rippling throughout the whole kingdom.

What did I think? Boy book 2 is a heck of a lot weaker than book 1. I don’t understand how so much can be going on while… nothing is going on? I remember not liking season 2 as much as season 1 of the show and I understand why now. So much is happening but it’s still so boring. I know it’s necessary to keep the story going but boy do I hate a lot of people and want them to hurry up and die. Also I’m very ready for Sansa to grow up and stop being so WHINY. Alright… I might take a break from this series for a bit. We will see if I have the energy to come back. Still a great narrator though! All his many voices are top tier!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

•Book 2 in the Harry Potter series•

What is the book about? Harry Potter has been absolutely miserable during his summer away from Hogwarts and his friends. He receives a sinister warning that there is great danger awaiting his return to school and he should not go back. He ignores the warnings and turns out the predictions are true and students keep mysteriously being attacked and turned as if to stone.

What did I think? Man I wish I had read these books as a child because I’m sure these twists HIT HARD! Since I already know what’s coming from the movies it’s not quite as dramatic but the twists and turns are still great! I absolutely love the continued development between Harry, Ron and Hermione. I love how much more obvious it is in the books that they pretty much reluctantly become friends with Hermione. I truly love seeing Harry find real love and care when he hasn’t had that for so long. Enjoyed this book more than book 1 simply based on the fact that there were LESS OF THE STUPID DURSLEYS. Let’s just write them out of the story now, please and thank you.

Magnolia Parks: Into the Dark by Jessa Hastings

•Book 5 in the Magnolia Parks Universe•

What is the book about? After an unimaginable loss, Magnolia and BJ are forced to look their demons in the eyes and finally work through all of the drama. They have to decide if their love for each other truly can conquer everything and everyone else that wants to see them torn apart.

What did I think? This book took me on a total roller coaster of emotions and I am truly in love with these messy, toxic characters at this point and I don’t want this to be the end! I need like 16 more of this mess please! I was fighting tears in parking lots throughout this book. The processing of grief and trauma and the emotional journeys these characters took were absolutely beautiful, raw and real. I will be counting down the days until I get to return to this world (ya hear me, Jessa?! Gimme MORE!) The messages and emotions are going to stick with me for a while on this one. They are messy but they are real and they are working on themselves and we love to see it.

Magnolia Parks: The Long Way Home by Jessa Hastings

•Book 3 in the Magnolia Parks Universe•

What is the book about? A year has passed since that fateful day on the steps of the Mandarin Oriental and Magnolia and BJ’s lives have drastically changed. Magnolia now lives in New York and seems to have settled in nicely with new friends and boyfriends. BJ has also finally taken blame for the things he’s done and has started therapy and is in a healthy new relationship. When circumstances bring Magnolia back to London and they are finally in the same town again, they both must face the reality that their love for each other still remains.

What did I think? I will be needing 5-7 business days to process that ending THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Also I don’t know if I’ve said it before about this series but these are TOP TIER audiobooks. The emotion and voice acting these readers put in is unmatched. We also Stan a dual narration. But, we can’t be happy for 5 seconds in this series, huh? These people are still extremely toxic but I love them and care about them and want what’s best for them and I am absolutely heartbroken now. I thought the Daisy Haites books were going to be better and I would love them more but after this one I think Magnolia Parks is where it’s at. These idiots have weaseled their way into my heart and I don’t want to let them go. They suck, but they are wonderful. I have never met a series that is more of a mindf*** but I love it. Magnolia and BJ forever. Could still do without the outfits being constantly described (why I loved Daisy more) but I won’t let it knock a star off… this time.😈

Daisy Haites by Jessa Hastings

What is the book about? Daisy Haites has always wanted a normal life but when you’re the heiress to London’s most notorious crime family, that’s impossible. She meets and falls for Christian Hemmes, one of the only men in town who doesn’t work for her brother. Christian is more than happy to spend his time with her to distract himself from the feelings he’s hiding for his best friend’s girlfriend. But he can’t help falling for Daisy too.

What did I think? This series is beyond addictive. I have no idea what it is but I can’t stop, won’t stop. The drama, the pinning, the tension… I could cut it all with a knife it’s so thick and wonderful and I’m so obsessed. Give me 50,000 more! I adored Daisy through the majority of this book, she is sweet and wonderful but also knows how to hold her own against all these boys she’s surrounded by. Christian… oh sweet baby Christian… you deserve so much better. That’s all I’m going to say. I’m dying for your happy ending. Jessa did you so dirty. And Julian… I had a major crush on you until the end. I love a bad boy.. but not that bad. I literally have no idea how we are going to resolve the dumpster fires we keep ending these books with but… let’s go find out!
