Citizens Scenarios 2020 — 2030
Between September 2018 and April 2019, Dr Katindi Sivi, one of Africa’s top six female futurists, facilitated a process that sought to build possible future scenarios in Kenya and they developed an insightful report dubbed “Citizens Scenarios 2020 — 2030.”
Dr. Katindi and the team that was constituted by Uraia Trust came up with 5 possible scenarios:
• Mapambano – a reactive and proactive citizen scenario;
• Wachana nao – an alienated citizens scenario;
• Vile vile - a conformist citizen scenario
• Liwe liwalo – a passive citizen scenario
• Hustler - a survivor / pragmatic citizens scenario
These are hypothetical and they got some things wrong but it is also eerie how prophetic they were with some predictions have come to pass and are unfolding now.
Check out Scenario 4: “The incumbent government continued using the guise of religion to justify their misdeeds and every emerging challenge was analyzed from this point of view. Religious tensions rose as other groups sought equal recognition and as a result the country held interfaith prayers, led by the mothers of Kenya. The outcome of the meeting was an unconstitutional prophesy that the incumbent was to rule for life if Kenya was to continue experiencing blessings and peace. The incumbent, in a bid to entrench his autocratic tendencies quickly mobilized political support to amend the Constitution to legalise this position without any opposition. Corruption and other vices continue without any checks and were justified by religious jargon like ‘patience pays and in due season, the country shall be made new again.”
