4 things every expecting parent MUST know about newborn sleep cycles

1. Newborn sleep is fragmented.Babies cycle between light and deep sleep every 45 minutes and often wake briefly between cycles.

2. Newborns show sleep cues when tired so watch for eye rubbing, yawning, and looking away - these mean it's time for sleep before they get overtired.

3. Newborns need help learning day from night and you can start establishing this difference by keeping days bright and active while keeping nights dark and quiet.

4. The frequent night wakings are TEMPORARY. It feels endless now but their sleep will gradually consolidate, and in the meantime, sleep in shifts with your partner - if possible.
