Holiday and New Year Update 🥳🎉

No matter how advanced you are, in order to expand your empire by conquest, you need some masses to serve as your lowest soldiers and working hands. In other words, pay them a negligible price, but in return, make them think we’re gods. And what kind of soldier fits these criteria the best? The filthy goblin!

While not all the creatures of the Palace have been properly revealed yet, we thought it better to showcase something a bit more exciting for the holidays – something which many of you are and have been looking forward to, something which even NWC may have been involved with! 🤫😉To that end, we are proud to present you, the Grunt and the Foot Soldier!

Further explanations of the visuals, lore and more can be found in the comments!

Greetings Heroes! ⚔️

Did any of you happen to attend the 25th Anniversary Heroes tournament in Poland? We were honoured to be able to showcase the 3 new towns, which have been in the works for years, as well as graphical improvements and gameplay footage.

We are also very proud to share with you that all the way back in 2019, the legendary Paul Anthony Romero created the town theme music for our Forge town. We really hope that you enjoy his wonderful composition just as much as we do.

Greetings, Heroes 3 fans! 👋
We certainly hope you didn't miss H3.gg's announcement of the "Heroes III: 25th Anniversary Championship." Did you also see the screenshot they kindly featured in the trailer? Well, here it is! 🐿️

Yes, that's the Forge, and yes, Gregory Fulton (Lead Designer of HoMM3) did provide guidance on the design of the town as well as on the campaign that will tell the story of the Heavenly Forge, heavily inspired by the visions of New World Computing (oh, and he was not the only one😉).

Good day, 'eroes, anyone know what day it is!? 😎 (APRIL FOOLS)

We hope that this update finds you well! Today, we will discuss the greatest DoR update up until now: the future of the project, as well as.... the game it will be featured in. 🐿️

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is known by all of us to be the true classic of the HoMM games. It is probably the installment with the most overwork hours and polishing put into it, and it shows. However, its brother, Heroes of Might and Magic 4, cannot claim the same, even if it's an objectively better game in terms of game design. How come? Well, by the time HoMM4's development began, 3DO was starting to go bankrupt. And thus, HoMM4's funds were fairly low, as was the development time. And they had to make do, somehow. Even so, they managed to make a game that is very solid gameplay wise, an upgrade from H3, and with an actual, greatly written story.

Anyway, why does this all matter? HoMM4 is an unfinished game, and it's undebatable that it has potential to be even better than HoMM3, in its finished form. That's why, and also because HoMM3 already has plenty of mods and great towns, the DoR Team has decided to move to HoMM4. What's coming will be a true revolution in the HoMM community, as well as a massive upgrade to HoMM4 itself. Prepare to be astonished and see HoMM4 rise to glory! We hope that you will continue to support us, and that the community will begin to truly enjoy this series' fourth instalment.

Happy whatever day it is🥸

Congratulations on finding all 5 squirrels in the previous update🐿️
As promised, here's a reward. This is the current Viking dwelling in the town screen, adjoined by a special building, to the right.
Currently, the effect of the building is more of a flavour effect, as every town has at least one such building. Said effect is also related to, yet again, time manipulation. More details than that will be unveiled at some other time (no pun intended)⏳

P.S. Yes, we are going to adjust the left side of the tree. 👀🌲

Happy New Year, everybody, it's time for another DoR update and a little challenge! 🎆 (Don't forget to check the comments for additional lore, animations and a brand new video)

Let's start with the challenge. How many hidden squirrels can you find in the map image? Post a picture (or a descriptive text) in the comments showing their position, if you manage to find all 6 of them, we'll post a little "reward" for you all.

Now, let's move on to an update on the "Nisse" and "Tomte". We have to thank you, the community, for the feedback given. We have always said that feedback is important and we take it into consideration, and it is true. There was plenty of feedback that this particular creature as well as certain aspects of the town are too reminiscent of Winter holidays. Since this was also not really our intent when making the Palace, we have decided to replace or rework most such elements, with most of that endeavour having been handled in November of last year. Thank you!

Palace consistently features various Norse and winterland creatures, but there is usually a clear distinction between the two. However, the Nisse might be the only exception. While it is a Nordic creature from Europe, from more or less the same area that was once occupied by vikings, it is in fact a post-viking creature, with it being debated to have appeared as early as the 13th century and as late as the 17th century.

This particular creature slot faced the most debate during the town's inception. Kobolds and Red Caps were some of the most commonly mentioned candidates, but in the end, we decided to go with something that has clear connections to the winterland and would have not been controversial for various reasons (such as the Kobold, which would have been an awkward fit due to its evil and draconic angle, among others). The Nisse is a little humanoid with enough room to be distinctive from other such races, and is associated with the necessary tropes.

Greetings, everyone! 👋
It's finally time for a major DoR update. Despite their rarity, actual progress is steady and constant, and, as the readers of Magazyn CD-Action might know, Palace is but one of the major features of the mod. Let's dive into the content.

The White Tiger and Sabertooth
(The Vori flag present in the creature images are prone to changes)

The level 3 creature in the Norse and winterland inspired Palace town, the auspicious White Tiger is a legendary creature dwelling in the caverns strewn all over the island of Vori. Strong, intelligent and agile, these beasts are hunters to be afraid of. It is no wonder that they are Vori's heraldic beast, a detail which also reflects the feline imagery found in real world heraldry.

Gameplay-wise, it is a very straightforward creature. Featured in both HoMM4 and HoMM7, White Tigers have always had a preemptive attack. That is, when targeted by an enemy, they retaliate before the enemy's attack. In DoR, we have decided to reuse this ability due to its simplicity, which is in line with other HoMM3 abilities, its thematic, which hints at the creature's feline agility and caution, as well as for consistency between game titles. For example, golems have always taken less damage from spells, whereas the sprites have always had an unrequited attack.

Its upgrade, the Sabertooth, has slightly better stats, but the main difference lies in its improved ability: not only does it retaliate before the enemy's attack, but also once more, after it. Thus, the ability doubles down on its feline traits.

Balance-wise, with stats comparable to those of the Griffin, but lacking its ability to fly - it is essentially a version of it that is slightly harder to get rid of in melee due to its more offensive retaliation(s), but easier to do so through ranged attacks, due to its inability to fly and reach the ranged creatures.

Let's talk some more about the Sabertooth. While we could have instead just made the basic version a regular tiger, or simply give more fur to the upgrade as well as slightly greater fangs, that would have been boring, and, in the case of the first option, would have not fit the town's color palette and also bring an overly exotic theme that is out of place in this faction. As such, we have taken a look at the lore of MM, as well as relevant media, and concluded that fitting them with armor and making them "fantastic" beasts all the way through by making them Sabertooth tigers was the most obvious course of action.

In HoMM4's Preserve campaign, second map, Elwin, the player-controlled protagonist, has the mission of forging an alliance between Aranorn (the Nature kingdom) and the White Tigers. There, he is surprised by a White Tiger, who, surprisingly, is sentient, capable of speech and even honorable. Lore-wise, this makes the White Tigers one of the very few "civilized" beasts. Obviously, they might want to protect themselves with armor. Not only that, but the sentient bears in the well-known "His Dark Materials" series are also known to wear armor, and this has been a major inspiration for the upgrade.

Lastly, the creature's visuals. There is little to discuss here. The creature was straightforward, and one of the first Palace creatures to be made. The basic version, a simple White Tiger, while the upgrade a Sabertooth with interlocking armor. No sketch was needed for this particular creature.

You will find some additional lore and content in the comments!
