ClayAlert!
Marginal to Slight Risk for Severe Storms – Southeast Texas

A cold front will move through southeast Texas this evening, bringing a chance for some strong to severe storms. Most of our area, including Houston, Angleton, Lake Jackson, and Sugar Land, is under a Marginal Risk, meaning a few storms could turn strong with gusty winds, small hail, or a brief tornado.

The main storm window looks to be around 6–8 PM as the front pushes through. Farther east toward Beaumont and Galveston, the risk is a little higher under a Slight Risk zone.

After the front passes, strong northwest winds will move in — 20–30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph — lasting through Wednesday evening. Be sure to secure outdoor items and use extra caution on the roads tonight and tomorrow.

Hurricane Melissa just made history as it slammed into Jamaica with sustained winds of 185 mph and a central pressure of 892 mb, making it the strongest hurricane ever to strike the island and one of the most powerful in Atlantic history. Melissa’s intensity surpassed that of 1988’s Hurricane Gilbert, which peaked at similar winds but made landfall much weaker, and rivaled the catastrophic force of Hurricane Dorian’s 2019 landfall in the Bahamas. With its combination of extreme winds and near-record-low pressure, Melissa joins the ranks of the most intense Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded, delivering catastrophic destruction across Jamaica and setting a new benchmark for Caribbean hurricane strength.
