Indonesia To Tighten Imports To Protect Domestic Products

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Friday that the government will implement various regulations to tighten the flow of imported goods in the country.

This step was taken to respond to complaints from associations and the public due to the high number of imported goods in traditional markets and increased sales of non-domestic goods in e-commerce, he noted.

“Imported goods will certainly disrupt the market share of domestic products. The illegal imports of used clothing have also increased and impacted layoffs in the textile industry sector,” he remarked after attending a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Hence, the government will issue several regulations to tighten imports of certain commodities, including children’s toys, electronics, footwear, cosmetics, textiles, traditional medicines and health supplements, clothes, and bags, he stated.

“In many countries, for example, China, the use of digital technology has been massive in villages or in places where fishermen are,” Adhiarna remarked in Purwosari Village, Banyumas District, Central Java, on Friday.

He conveyed this statement at a gathering event after the mass harvest of cultivated fish in the village. The fish cultivation was part of the “Cultivation Farmer Go Digital” Program.
