Feeding humpbacks, off-shore bottlenose dolphins, fin whales, seabirds, and mola molas. Today’s whale watch w/ had it all!🐋🐬🐟

With the Marine Mammal Protection Act under threat, trips like today remind us why it matters. Protecting whales, dolphins, and all marine life isn’t optional, it’s essential for the health of our oceans and our future. These waters are alive because of decades of protection, and it’s up to us to make sure they stay that way. Educating ourselves and others is always the first step. Once you understand what’s at stake it’s impossible not to care.

Huge thanks to the staff at for their time, kindness, and incredible care for these animals. So many of these turtles wouldn’t stand a chance without them. And now they’re more ready than ever to go hunt down some jellyfish. 🪼

And without further ado, these sea turtles are hot to go back into the Atlantic :)🐢🌊💅

A little whale watching season update, science, and some thoughts….

Whales migrate thousands of miles each year, leaving behind only a ripple, a splash, and the fading imprint of their powerful fluke churning on the ocean’s surface.

Whales are the earths biggest climate activists and they do their part just by p**ping! Whale p**p is the perfect fertilizer for phytoplankton. These tiny ocean plants capture 40% of our carbon dioxide emissions. When whales die, their bodies sink to the bottom of the sea floor which is known as a whale fall, storing carbon and nourishing all different types of life below.

Meanwhile, I see how humans choke rivers, acidify the ocean and atmosphere and drowning the earth in microplastics, noise, and light pollution.

We humans can’t seem to touch anything without leaving a scar. When we die we will leave nothing behind but a scorched earth and a new generation forced to inherit a dying world.

Nature knows her balance. We remain deaf to her quiet voice. She is patiently waiting for us, for you, and for me take notice and to learn.

Peaceful at the surface, but thinking about the chaos below makes me smile 🐋

Half preaching to the choir, but unlike whales with teeth, Humpbacks don’t travel in a family unit known as a pod.

What’s wild is that even after migrating thousands of miles, these guys will sometimes reunite with whales they were seen with in the previous years.

So maybe not a family bond like a pod but definitely some long distance besties that keep choosing each other!

Which feels kinda perfect for today!

Sending lots of love to everyone out there celebrating Pride! A celebration that’s a beautiful reminder that family can be about choosing who you love and connect with, just like these whales do 🐳

Mother and calf spinning in
the Caribbean blue
Sunlight cuts through the sea
fracturing into a million prisms
From each playful splash of the calf

I floated there, weightless,
A guest in their world
A whisper in their rhythm

But above the waves
Sat someone who should know better
Who had built a life on the oceans back
Yet still demanded it bow to her

A naturalist by name
But in practice petty, spoiled, small,
Arms crossed, lips curled,

Every wonder handed to her
Yet never enough….

She wanted the sea on her schedule
The whales at her command
Expectations set higher than the masts
And when the world didn’t bend for her
She snapped
like a child denied candy at checkout
she sputtered and flailed
Grasping for dignity and found none

Just an echo of her own ugliness, bouncing back across the waves

But the whales kept dancing
mercifully as ever
Kept spinning
Kept singing their ancient songs

And those of us,
who still had wonder
Who hadn’t forgot
Who still knew how to listen
Who celebrated any gift from the sea
Danced right alongside with them

I’m grateful the sea has never learned to listen to people like her

Swipe to see me get jumped scared by a whale….

This is going to be corny and dramatic so feel free to skip 🙃

A few years ago I was miserable working in kitchens and picking up jobs that didn’t suit me. I reached a breaking point and became unemployed for a bit, unsure of my next move.

So I did the only thing that made sense, Let’s reconnect with nature and then see what’s up. I went on a whale watch with the hope that these giant creatures would give me some direction.

Turns out, they did. I haven’t stopped since.

Anyways, another trip to the breeding grounds of Grand Turk has left me feeling deeply inspired by you all. The point of my story is I am so grateful for all of the people that I have met; my coworkers, boat captains, the Barbies from the other boats, and all the badass marine biologists. Watching you all pour your time, heart, and joy into your love for these animals has been deeply inspiring. As someone that has no degree in anything (yet) I am so thankful I can learn from you guys and call you my friends! Thank you for everything ❤️
