Australian Motorsport Simulation Modding Association - AMSMA "Representing the niche that is Australian Motorsport in racing simulations"

26/11/2024

Hi all.
As another year draws to a close I wanted to give a public update regarding the mod.

Yes, as dead as it may seem here, the mod is still alive. Barely.

I have been up to my eyeballs with real life and the stress of that has killed a lot of motivation on my end to even look at this mod.

For now, the main thing I am focused on is clean-slating the pre 1997 vehicles, as I have much better models and resources now to redo those to a quality level that I am happy with, which will overall provide a better experience for you as the user.

As this is the case, I am also looking at pushing a few updates to the AU, VT and VX before I go on with the pre-97 cars.

please bear with me in this case, as I have no money in this mod, neither does anyone else. Please also remember that this is something that I am trying to put together in my free time, which I don't seem to get much of anymore.

I cant thank the people that have worked with me on this project up to this point, current or past, for their patience due to me screwing them around.

I am hoping to devote some time to this in early 2025, when I have some time off work and I'm away from real life.

Please, keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks,
Nathan.

Hey everyone,
It's been a little bit since I've said anything about the mod. but I think its time I say something regarding progress.

Don't worry, I'm not cancelling the mod.

Though what I am doing for now is dropping support for rFactor. With the amount of work that is in converting between rFactor 1 and Automobilista 1 and making sure that everything that works in rFactor works in Automobilista 1 and vice versa, I believe that it is a good idea to drop support for now and focus on one game, then at the end I can backport and focus on one game at a time.

Truth is though is that the rFactor platform is limited in its capability. Automobilista 1 is better handling, performing and looking than its predecessor, and for now Automobilista 1 is the main game that I work with. Working on both at the same time is quite taxing for what I'm doing, especially now that I have a lot going on in life with the purchase of a new house and all

Realistically, I'd rather work on it for one game and do it right than work on it for two games at the same time and do it rushed.

I Hope you all understand

So for now, I'm going to have a crack at working on this again.
-Higgo.

Hey AMSMA fans, we need a help for a logo.
What is the green logo on the back bumper?
This car is the #76 2002 Holden VX Commodore, driven at Queensland 500 by Andrew Miedecke and Tony Quinn.

Hey all. Apologies for this but the template for the AU Falcons may be wrong. I'll upload the correct ones tomorrow 🙂

Hey All
First off I want to preface this by saying merry Christmas and I hope you all get the good presents under the tree this year (hopefully this being one of them).

Now, to business.

I want to thank everyone for the spurring on you've all been giving me to get up off my ass and get something out.
I can now proudly say I have something good enough to release.
If I could go back and tell my past self something, I would tell him "don't bite off more than you can chew". either way, I'm proud of where I have gotten this to so far.

It's quite scuffed, there's a lot to make right in updates, the sounds are not where I want them to be, the in car camera is the only one that works, but its something to show for the 3 and a bit years of work not only I but the rest of the AMSMA team have put into this. it currently only features Mark Larkham's 1999 AU, the 99 HRT car and the 2002 Green Eyed Monster, but as time goes on and more updates come, that will change. templates are included however.

I won't lie, dead tired, 4 AM brain Higgo shed a tear writing this up, purely because of the amount of work that has gone into this so far, and the fact that I have devoted the better part of the last 3 and a bit years of my life to this project.

Again, I want to thank you all for being patient for as long as you have. I also want to thank the team that has stood behind me for as long as they have.

I present to you all,
AMSMA's 5 Litre Tourer Mod

So... It's been a minute since the last proper update, and since then the gameplan has changed slightly. From now on, the AU, VT and VX Will be released as a precursor to everything else. These cars are the most complete. the Physics behind these machines will be ORSM physics with a tweak in engine data, gearbox data, weight, inertia etc. to values that are more in line with the series regulations, as ive gained access to CAMS Manuals and V8 Supercars Operation Manuals.

What about the other cars you may ask?

Well that's why the decision has been made to backflip and release the later cars first.
When the project started, I didn't really have a road plan as to what I really wanted to achieve, it was more just slap it together and see what happens, but now that I know I can do so much better with the experience I've gained over the 3 or so years I have been doing modding, I know I have the skillset to make the earlier cars (everything AU and VT Down) much much much better than they currently are, which is why the executive decision has been made to redo the models for the vehicles that pre-date the AU and VT.

Thankyou for being as patient as you all have been with me and the rest of the team, the lack of a download link to show for all the effort that's been put in is wholly on me and no one else. Everyone else has pulled their weight and thrown in tons of effort, but I have been the main reason its taken as long as it has to get to this point.

Hey all. I feel I should make a post addressing the quiet that's been emanating from the page for quite some time now.

To be completely truthful the start of this year has been that busy that I slowly started to lose the motivation to work on the mod, as I have been snowed under with work from a new opportunity.

To clarify. This mod isn't dead. Every now and then there will be slow patches where things will crawl to a halt because I'm not able to work something out, or I am progressing on something that is more urgent, as I have been splitting time between this and other ventures behind scenes.

The main issue I'm having at this point is gathering data for physics. The physics I thought would have been the final physics were fundamentally broken, and it was going to be quite a task to fix them without real life data. As well as this, I am still to learn about what 90 percent of the values do in an rfactor physic file. We have engine data for later vehicles, but not much aero data, which is where we are lacking.

I do however want to thank the team of skinners and people who have been handing out tidbits of information to try to help progress, you all know who you are, and it does not go unappreciated.

This mod isn't dead, we're just taking the time to get it right

Regards,
Higgo

2000 #57 - Chris Butler/Miles Andrew Pope
STATUS: LOOK FOR BETTER PICS.
When doing the 2000 year series, V8Skinner as usual started from the backmarkers first.
Trevor Crittenden Motorsport's entry for Bathurst 2000 is one of the cases where the team and the car seems disappeared from memory.
Type the team, and you find some writings, but no photos. Not even from the official FB page, no drivers, no nothing.
All we could find by pure accident was this 185x113 pixels thumbnail picture, that is from another round and with another number ( #127, not #57). If that's not enough, the Konica Series (as super2 was called back in the day) actually had a #57 Holden run by the Trevor Crittenden's team, but the drivers were none of the ones that raced at Bathurst, yet the windscreen strip still says "Butler", and while there was a #127 car raced by Butler, it belonged to a different team, so this picture can't be used to identify the #57 Bathurst entry.
While trying to figure out all this chaos, we noticed that the #57 Bathurst entry only did Practice 1, and no laptime was recorded, possibly crashing or breaking down.
V8Skinner's personal rule is that a car that didn't make it to the race CAN be painted, but it's not mandatory, since photos could be impossible to find (actually sometimes you can find pictures, but this is not the case).
Because of this, the only possible conclusion is to ignore this car, thus dodging a major headache.
