What if solving hunger started not with a bright solution, but with a shared purpose? This Nutrition Month, Filipinos are reminded that being united is for a better future in our community. Together, we can build a healthier nation.

Monkayo National High School held a nutrition month culmination on July 30, 2025, led by MNHS-TLE faculty and SSLG, who organized the event, allowing students to join the exciting school activities and showcasing their talents in creativity and arts.

From the Vegetable Costume Making, Fruit Costume Making, Poster Making, Fruit Carving, Heaviest Vegetable and Longest Vegetable, Nutritious Fruit Drink, Vegetable-Based Cookie/Bread Making, and Clustering Jingle Making.

The poster-making participants encourage others by making a poster that encourages the people to take better care of their health and make smarter food choices. While Clustering jingle created their own song to encourage people to eat nutritious foods through the rhythm and rhyme. The Vegetable Costume Making and Fruit Costume Making promote healthy eating in a creative way by designing fruits and vegetables into costumes. Heaviest and Longest Vegetable Contest—the students showcased their heavy and long vegetables. Nutritious Fruit Drink—Vegetable-Based Cookie/Bread Making promotes the use of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Nutrition Month is a reminder to value our health by eating nutritious food, promoting healthy habits, and making smart choices every day. It's the time to take care of our health by eating nutritious foods and making healthier choices for our bodies. We learned the importance of eating healthy and taking care of our bodies to promote good nutrition.

Students from Monkayo National High School (MNHS) engaged in a cooking activity in their classrooms on July 30, 2025 in commemoration of its Nutrition Month Celebration.

The activity was proposed by the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Department in collaboration with the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) and consisted of students from different levels working with their section in making healthy meals.

The theme for this year's Nutrition Month was "Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!" and subtheme "Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!".

"I enjoyed being able to cook different dishes with my classmates. We are used to cooking different dishes at home, but cooking with our classmates felt different, it felt like we were just playing. While cooking, we talked about different topics, laughed at our clumsiness, laughed because we forgot some ingredients and some plates, and cooked while singing and dancing." Said Princess Ross Pascual, a student participant.

The object and purpose of the cooking activity was to raise awareness on the benefits of healthy eating as well as raise awareness and have conversations and discussions regarding nutrition security in school, among the students.

The requirement for this activity was that every class should prepare a vegetable main dish, vegetable or fruit salad, and fruit juice were all to be made on the school campus, preferably at the back of their respective classrooms while considering safety as well, as gas stoves, gas range, and butane fuel is not allowed.

"We prepared veggie nuggets because this dish is very easy and quick to make, and we enjoyed combining healthy ingredients into it. It’s a quick, balanced meal that’s both delicious and plant-based." Said Rama, a Grade 8 participant.

Although this activity is not contest based, it is a collaborative and participatory activity allowing students the opportunity to exercise everything they have learned through class on food and healthy food choices.

These vanishing lines of oldies are etched into him. As the days and years passed by, he became not just a leader and a mentor but also a safe place for everything. He is the one who can be turned to and who made their days much lighter, filled with laughter and hope as they faced their darkest times. He seems strict and intimidating, but his heart is closed to the people he used to call his home.

The string in an instrument, Eleuterio B. Lagare is a teacher, a mentor, a leader, and a home for many students he treated as his own. He is a Mapeh Head Teacher, Special Program in Sports (SPS) Coordinator, and MNHS-Boy Scout of the Philippines Coordinator. He is almost 26 years in the service at Monkayo National High School. In scouting, he became the trail in every track of the journey of the boy scouts as he led the way with courage, and the passion to serve is his strength. A dedicated teacher with a heart who's willing to give all his knowledge and learnings in order to mold one's skill and showcase the talents of the students, especially his SPS students.

Beyond the lyrics of his life, there's always a note that pulled him down, a tone of uncertainties he never expected; however, he surpassed all of these because he knows in himself that there are more things he must prioritize and many people need his presence. Nevertheless, the joy and laughter he etched at the hearts of his colleagues and the bright aura he showers in every corner of the room. As his life goes on, he will continue to teach at Danggayon Integrated School to unveil more skills and talents of the students.

In his journey as an instrument of every student, even though he may not be seen anymore in the corners of the same school, his shared knowledge, learnings, experiences, and leadership will remain in every soul he touched. Indeed, he is the leader of the band that lives within the songs of the soul of every individual.

In the wide space of a certain place where the battle of the brains exists and the beat of a heart races, these two conquered beyond the horizon of the pen between answers. Not just sitting in the place where they belong, however, surpassing the ground of knowledge in the baskets of nutrition and preserving the value of being healthy with unity.

A field of golden plantations, the Municipality of Monkayo celebrated Nutrition Month Culmination with this year's theme:"Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!" with the subtheme:"Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!" on July 25, 2025, held at Monkayo Dome.Within this culmination, they also conducted competitions; more specifically, Nutri-Quiz Bee was represented by the duo of intellectual quizzers, Michael Javes Salugao, a Grade 12-STEM student, and Francis Xavier Esperanza, a Grade 10-STE student, of Monkayo National High School, where they showcased their passion and intelligence towards the competition.

As they were in the competition, they faced their opponents from East and West District Schools of Monkayo that tested their knowledge of every single detail of health and growth; however, it was not a hindrance, for they have a different kind of courage together with their coach, Arnold P. Asis, a Monkayo National High School teacher. “It was devastating, knowing that we had a chance of winning since we were leading at that time, but because of one question, the one that we hesitated to answer, we didn't make it. Moreover, we are quite pressured since one and a half days of reviewing isn't enough for us; however, we're still grateful for having this opportunity,” Michael Javes Salugao, a representative quizzer, stated. Moreover, their competition was not a waste, for they achieved and won 2nd place with a total of 61 points.

It's not only acknowledging the one they have lost over the competition; however, it's an acceptance of molding them united beyond baskets and treasuring what's inside the basket. It's a nutrition that everyone should acquire in order to be healthy, not just physically but mentally.
