7 small luxuries that now feel out of reach for the average
UK family 💔
Remember when these things felt normal.. and not like a treat vou had to justify?
1️⃣A weekly takeaway without guilt
🍕What used to cost £20 is now £35-£50 for a family meal.
2️⃣Spontaneous days out with the kids
🎢 A simple theme park trip can hit £120+ for tickets alone, before food & fuel.
3️⃣Booking your hair/nails without waiting for payday
💇♀️The average women’s haircut now costs £50-£70, up 30% since 2019.
4️⃣Cinema trips (with snacks!) that don’t cost a fortune
🎬2 adults + 2 kids + drinks/popcorn?
Around £60-£80 for just a couple of hours.
5️⃣Saying yes to every birthday invite or after-school club
🎂Kids’ clubs average £7-£12 a session, and parties mean another £10-£20 gift each time.
6️⃣Upgrading your phone or car without months of saving
📱A new iPhone now starts at £899, and even a basic used family car is £6k+.
7️⃣A last-minute weekend away, just because
🏡A UK family Airbnb for 2 nights can easily be £300-£500 before travel & meals.
Why it feels so much harder now:
UK food prices are up 25% in just 2 years 🛒
Childcare for under-2s averages £11,700 a year🍼
Energy bills are still 50% higher than pre-2022 ⚡️
Nearly 1 in 5 UK families are now in ‘in-work poverty’
So even if you’re “doing okay”, there’s nothing left after the essentials,
I remember that sinking feeling of waiting for payday, saying no to things I didn’t want to & feeling guilty for wanting more than just getting by.!
That’s why I decided to learn a way to earn flexibly from my phone. Something I could fit around my 2 kids without extra childcare or sacrificing time with them.
It’s given me the breathing room to say YES to little luxuries again.
Comment INFO if you’re a UK mum (or dad) who wants a bit of financial breathing space without missing moments with your kids and I’II share how I got started as a complete beginner💕
