Big news from the U.K.—they’ve changed the law so 16- and 17-year-olds can now vote in the next election. Some Canadians hope our country will do the same. Supporters believe voting younger could help people stay more involved in politics for life.

But not everyone agrees. Some say lowering the voting age won’t change much and there are better ways for teens to get involved.

There’s even a court case in Canada trying to change the law.

Should the voting age be lowered to 16?

Calgary’s high-end housing market is defying national trends. While major cities like Toronto and Vancouver saw sharp drops, Calgary posted a 43% surge in $4M+ home sales in the first half of 2025, according to Sotheby’s International Realty. Experts say interprovincial migration and pent-up demand are fueling the momentum.

📈 Despite economic uncertainty, Calgary is emerging as a hotbed for luxury buyers.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s first Alberta Next town hall in Red Deer kicked off a sold-out series aimed at hearing grievances about Ottawa. Around 650 people were expected, with many backing proposals like leaving the Canada Pension Plan or creating an Alberta police force. Some called for a referendum on separation, saying it’s the only way to gain leverage.

Critics argued the process felt biased and costly, while protesters outside accused the government of ignoring Indigenous rights. Smith says the panel will gather feedback across Alberta before making referendum recommendations in October.

What do you think is the biggest issue to bring up at these town halls?

Starting Wednesday, CTrain riders in Calgary will need to scan their mobile tickets at stations before boarding—a move aimed at cutting fare evasion. Calgary Transit is rolling out 112 ticket validators citywide after finding nearly half of adult and youth tickets weren’t being activated properly. Previously, riders could just show an activated ticket on their phone (or, let’s be honest, only activate it if they spotted a transit cop approaching). The city says it’s not a huge change, since buses already have validators—so don’t panic, just tap, beep, and ride.

The Calgary Stampede says it will “evaluate” which artists perform on the Coca-Cola Stage after large crowds at free shows raised safety concerns. High-profile sets by Don Toliver and Khalid drew especially big audiences, with reports of overcrowding and discomfort.

Stampede CEO Joel Cowley says guest safety is the top priority going into 2026. Plans include exploring more barriers and learning from other events.

Free outdoor concerts will remain a key draw, but artist selection may shift to better manage crowds.

A new report shows Alberta tops the country for residents feeling overwhelmed by finances. According to the latest MNP Consumer Debt Index, 41% of Albertans say they’re anxious about money. Nearly half are just $200 or less away from insolvency. Rising interest rates remain a major concern, with 46% worried about repaying debt even if rates fall. Experts say the stress cuts across income levels, with many small business owners and workers hit hard.

How would you describe your current financial stress level?
