In Heaven (also known as the “lady in the radiator song”) was written by Peter Ivers and David Lynch and is featured in Lynch's 1977 film Eraserhead. Originally just a few lines long, it has been covered by artists like Devo, Bauhaus, Modest Mouse, The Pixies, and now Princess Chelsea!
Chelsea’s version has been extended to a dreamy 4-minute shoegaze epic (or 8 minutes live, as showcased at Auckland Town Hall in 2024) with a few extra lyrics added (“I Love You, Everything is Fine - You Got Your Sweet Heart and I Got Mine”).
“I'm not sure adding ‘I Love You’ qualifies as writing lyrics, but it was a really fun exercise to turn this lovely earworm into a longer arranged piece,” says Chelsea, who sees herself more as an arranger than a singer.
The recording was mixed by Ryan McPhun of The Ruby Suns who also performs Cornet and features Chelsea on vocals, synths, drums and lead guitar with Joshua
Worthington-Church on rhythm guitar.
The music video, inspired by 1970s sci-fi and religious propaganda, was crafted by Chelsea using a surreal blend of found footage, AI-generated clips, and stock imagery. The result is a bizarre, dreamlike piece she describes as “Princess Chelsea aesthetic dialed up to 100,” with subtle nods to Lynch.
Speaking of Lynch, those who enjoyed the Twin Peaks ball last year should look out for an announcement in the not too distant future!
