Last night, crews from the Belair Country Fire Service received their brand-new Federally Funded Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) for the Sturt Group.
The Quick Response Vehicles are built on a Toyota Land Cruiser Workmate chassis and come equipped with a turbocharged diesel engine, ensuring they are quick and agile enough to access areas where standard fire appliances cannot. The vehicles also include features such as In-Cab Pump Start, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), scene lighting, and a battery-operated chainsaw. These appliances are based on an NSWRFS Category 9 design, with changes made to suit South Australian landscapes and requirements.
The Sturt Group will receive two Quick Response Vehicles, funded through a federal initiative aimed at enhancing bushfire resilience within the District Of Waite. This latest batch of QRVs will total 35 vehicles distributed to various locations across South Australia, including Yahl, Port Lincoln, Murray Bridge, and Barmera.
With this addition, the total number of Quick Response Vehicles in the state will rise to 81, significantly improving the Country Fire Serviceβs ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in hard-to-reach areas such as the recent fires at Wilmington in the Flinders Ranges in February. Belair's new Quick Response Vehicle, in particular, allows crews to quickly gain access to nearby bike tracks for quicker assistance in an emergency.
Belair's new Quick Response Vehicle came online last night, increasing the brigade's capability to respond.
Thank you to Belair CFS for allowing me to come take some photos!
