From 100 to 26 From owning a 100’ yacht and downsizing to a 26’ boat. Follow us to see how that decision worked out
(3)

After years of boating and through multiple refit projects from a 39’ boat all the way up to an 80’, we finally bought our dream boat: a 100’ expedition yacht named Bravo! We survived the refit for Bravo, lived onboard for several years, crewed her with plans to travel the world… then Covid hit! We spent three years traveling up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States, and decided to se

ll Bravo for a brand new 80’ yacht. But then, we changed our minds and bought a 26’ boat to “get back to the simplicity of boating!”

Follow us to see how that decision worked out for us.

Our First Trip Gone Wrong: 2024 Regal 38 XO

We set off on a month long adventure to answer a simple question, is the Regal 38XO going to be a perfect fit for our future family trips? While we purchased this boat more as a weekender and the occasional two week trips, we decided to take the plunge and packed the boat for a 30 day adventure departing Baltimore, Maryland and heading up to New Port, Rhode Island. We had planned for stops in Cape May, New Jersey; Atlantic City, New York City, and Block Island. We traveled down the Chesapeake Bay, under the Francis Scott Key Bridge and the Elk River and through the C&D Canal to the Delaware Bay. We spent a few days in Cape May before the weather took a turn for the worse. We did continue north as the forecast called for much warmer and calmer days ahead. Wacth our video to see just how far north we got before deciding to turn around due to not only poor weather conditions, but also due to some mechabical issues that needed to be addressed. In this two part series, we answer the question of wherher the Regal 38 XO is the ideal boat for us. We share with you the mechanical issues we had and how those were resolved as well as our insight in to the comfort level of the Regal 38XO as a home away from home while at dock and at sea.

2024 Regal 38 XO: PROBLEMS, ISSUES & HEADACHES Episode 13 On the Water

We finally take our Regal 38XO out on the water. As we take the boat out into the Baltimore Harbor, which is the only place that we can test the boat currently because of the container ship Dali hitting the Key Bridge. We achieve some remarkable test results, as our boat goes over 40 knots as a top speed and only registers a decibel level of 70, which is simply remarkable for this kind of a boat.

We update you with what has been fixed with our boat, and what has gone wrong… can someone say Dometic AC Systems. Also in our tests we experience first hand what it is like to have a Seakeeper system on board. We also explore how Garmin does a terrible job of incorporating the AIS alerts into their systems. Scott gets to dock our boat, he has never docked a joystick boat before so it was interesting to see how the Yamaha Joystick system make him look like a pro. We dive under the bed to find where Regal Boats put the fresh water pump and in the Lazzertte, where they hid the raw water pump. PYI comes out with an amazing boat hook. Finally we see our boat torn apart while they try to fix the AC systems and we provide an update on what Dometic Marine Air Conditions plans to do to actually fix our
problem.

REGAL BOATS 2024: Comparing top models 38SAV, 38XO, & 38FXO

The Regal 38 FXO and the Regal 38 SAV are both available for sale from our dealership AMPM Marine, you can contact them at 410-360-7437 or visit them at https://ampmmarine.com

In this Episode of From 100 to 26, we compare the Regal 38 XO, the Regal 38 FXO and the Regal 38 SAV. Because the interiors are the same on the Regal 38 XO and the Regal 38 FXO, we will not be covering them in this video. For an in-depth tour of the inside of these boats, please follow this link for our Feature Walkthrough of the Regal 38 XO at:

Each Regal 38’ model provides the owner a different exprience, from the open center console experience of the 38 SAV to the ability to run a boat on a flybridge of the Regal 38 FXO, and of course the boat that worked best for us being the 38 XO which provides the ability to run a coupe version with the sunroof open.

2024 REGAL 38 XO: Boat Uphrades (Navtronics & More)

In this episode, we take you through the the majority of our upgrade process on our Regal 38XO, from Navtronics to Safety Equipment, to accessories that we have always carried with us on our 100 Foot Expedition Yacht Bravo, some of which we incorporated into our Regal. We worked with vendors from the Maryland and Chesapeake Bay Areas, to companies in Canada, Australia and around the world. Some of these improvements we would like to see Regal Boats incorporate them into future vessels or offer them as options.

Some options were not featured in this episode, such as AIS. We plan to address the AIS upgrade we did in a later episode because we really need to highlight the biggest issues with the system, and that is how Gamin chose to display AIS targets. Also such safety gear as EPIRS will also be featured in a future episode.

(Ep 10) 2024 REGAL 38XO: Walk-Through

On this episode of From 100 to 26, we take you on a features tour of our New 2024 Regal 38XO, a 38 foot sport coupe yacht with outboard power and lots of storage. We show you the areas and design elements that helped us choose the Regal 38XO over the Regal 42XO.

Why did we buy the Regal 38XO? While there are a multitude of reasons which we cover in this episode, here are the primary reasons we decided to downsize from a 100 footer expedition yacht to a Regal 26 XO… only to realize it was too small for our mission and ultimately going up to a Regal 38 XO: the outboard power, the fully enclosed cabin with no isinglass, the split head configuration with the shower on the port side and the vanity and toilet on the starboard side, the layout of the salon, the rear deck entertaining space and the ability to open up the sunroof and the side windows.

Having been experienced large yacht owners of the 100 foot expedition vessel Bravo, storage was a key element in the consideration of the Regal 38XO.

This summer we will be taking you on one of our first trips, where we take the Regal 38XO (ECHO) from Baltimore, to Cape May, New York City, though the Hamptons, Block Island, Nantucket, Marthas Vineyard, and Boston to name a few.

EPISODE 9

2024 REGAL 38 XO: Delivery & Inspection Walk-Through

In this episode of From 100 to 26, we travel to AM PM Marine in Pasadena, Maryland which is just a short hop from Baltimore and Washington, DC. Founded in 1995 by Tom and Lisa, a husband a wife team that specialize in selling Regal boats, they have established AM PM Marine as one of the premier Regal dealerships on the east coast.

With over 15 years of boat ownership and having purchased 14 new and preowned boats during that time, we have worked with a multitude of boat brokers and boat dealerships throughout the state of Florida. Having recently relocated to Maryland, we had an opportunity to work with AM PM Marine when we purchased our Regal 26XO back in June 2023. Going through the process of purchasing and adding upgrades to our first boat with them was simply an amazing and easy experience.

So when we decided the Regal 26XO was too small for us, we didn’t hesitate when it came to ordering the Regal 38XO from AM PM Marine. Of course there are other manufacturers offering a similar style boat with similar features, but the relationship with our dealership is what put the cherry on top of the sundae for us in making our final decision. Remember, a manufacturer is only as good as the dealership answering service calls.

Our goal with this episode is to provide our viewers a firsthand look at what the condition of a brand new boat from the factory is like and how it takes several weeks to months to get the boat to a truly deliverable condition. Often, boats incur minor damage to the exterior gel coat (or paint) during the transportation process — whether that be from international overseas transport via a cargo ship or via a semi truck traveling from state to state. Typically, the buyer doesn’t even see the boat until after the dealership has gone over the entire boat from bow to stern on the exterior and the interior and has brought the boat up to an acceptable condition. In other words, flaws on the gel coat, seats, cabinets, etc have already been addressed and replacement parts have already been ordered. Fortunately, AM PM Marine allowed us to be onsite for the delivery of our 38 XO and for the initial and second inspections of the boat. We captured all of that on camera for our viewers.

During this episode, you will see our arrival at the AM PM Regal Boats dealership on a chilly autumn morning to conduct our second visual inspection of the boat prior to signing the closing documents and handing over the check. The visual inspection process is a lengthy one, which took almost the entire day to complete. As seen in the episode, we used green tape during the initial inspection to mark flaws that needed attention from the dealership and/or the Regal Factory. The boat is delivered to the show room, our second inspection begins and is after the dealership has already addressed many of the issues that were previously marked with green tape.

Our Regal 38XO had already gone through a month of work on the exterior and interior to get the boat to the condition it is in as seen in this episode. This work entailed identifying issues with the hull gelcoat, interior upholstery, cushions, cabinets, and all other cosmetic materials on the vessel, placing the necessary replacement parts on order. Any exterior issues were corrected by sanding, buffing and polishing the gel coat on the hull. Issues that cannot be corrected and need additional parts
will be sent to the dealership warranty department where they will work with Regal Boats to obtain the necessary parts to complete the repairs.

Since the systems are were winterized at the factory prior to transport, the sea trial and full acceptance of the boat will occur in the early spring, once the weather and temperatures allow. While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend closing on a boat prior to all inspections being complete, our trust in AM PM Marine and Regal Boats gave us great confidence in finalizing the purchase several months before we can tests systems and run the boat on the water.

Our future episodes will show the various upgrades we are making to the Regal 38XO while she sits in the AM PM Marine showroom.

EPISODE #8

Regal Boats FACTORY TOUR: How Boats are Made

In this episode of From 100 to 26, we travel to Orlando, Florida to one of the few U.S. based family owned and operated boat manufacturers. Founded in 1969 by Paul and Carol Kuck with a vision of innovation and customer satisfaction, they formed a legacy and defined a new standard in boating luxury. More than fifty years later, the award winning family owned company has grown to become a leading player in the boating industry.

During our factory tour, Jake Kuck, one of the owners and the Vice President of North American Sales and Marketing, spends a full day with us as we go through an in-depth walkthrough of the entire 650,000 square foot facility where over 900 team members work everyday creating Regal Boats. The Orlando based manufacturing facility builds almost 1500 Regal Boats per year! Today, Regal Boats is ranked highest in customer satisfaction by both JD Power and Associates and the National Marine Manufacturers' Association.

Out on the production line we see the full gamut of Regal Boats attention to detail across various assembly lines and all the detailed processes that go into constructing the brand's current models - from the largest outboard luxury yachts on the market (such as the 42XO) to their smallest bowriders, all of the boats receive the same level of attention to detail. With almost everything made in-house including all cushions, cabinets, wiring harnesses, etc. it is an incredible process to see in their state of the art facility.

Regal Boat uses cutting edge technology such as CNC machines (computer numerical control machines) to ensure every various components from seat cushions to cabinetry are cut to perfection every single time.

We were also blown away by how Regal Boats puts color on the hulls of their boats. Unlike other boat manufacturers, Regal does not use paint when it comes to the color of their hulls; rather, they use colored fiberglass. The color is actually poured into the fiberglass during the manufacturing process. This makes for an extremely durable, long lasting finish.

And finally, the most exciting part of our visit was seeing the innovative technique Regal Boats uses when assembling their boats. Instead of using stick construction which means little parts of the interior are assembled one part at a time, Regal uses a solid fiberglass liner where the entire interior is assembled on this rigid fiberglass floor, including all wiring, plumbing, cabinets, beds, etc, then this entire assembly is flown over by crane and placed into the hull where all the tanks and electrical components have already been installed. This liner the then set into the hull and the deck on top of the liner to finish the assembly, simply cutting edge technology.
