TALIBON MUNICIPAL HALL - BOHOL 🇵🇭.
Soon to be a TALIBON CITY? 😍♥️😱
Brief History (Edited)
Talibon, a municipality in Bohol, Philippines, boasts a rich history intertwined with early Christianization, the establishment of a Catholic diocese, and the development of its unique cultural identity. Its name is said to be derived from "talibong," a type of Visayan sword. Before the Spanish conquest, Boholanos, known as "Pintados" (the tattooed ones), had their own culture, as evidenced by artifacts.
Early Christianization:
Talibon was among the first areas in Bohol to be touched by Christianity, with Spanish survivors of the Cebu massacre in 1521 seeking refuge there and becoming early lay missionaries.
Jesuit Mission and Parish:
The Society of Jesus established the parish of Talibon in 1722, and a stone church was later constructed under the Recollects in 1852.
Diocese of Talibon:
The Diocese of Talibon was created in 1986, making Talibon's church a cathedral.
Trinidad's Separation:
In 1947, several barrios from Talibon, including Ipil, were reorganized as the municipality of Trinidad, according to the Provincial Government of Bohol.
UNESCO Global Geopark:
Bohol, including Talibon, was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023, recognizing its geological significance and rich cultural heritage.
Talibon today:
Talibon is known for its old ancestral houses, which are significant cultural landmarks and are being actively preserved through community engagement.
The town is also involved in various industries, including rice farming, seaweed farming, and fishing.
