Newport Area Updates:
The Blessing of the Animals will be Sunday, October 5, located at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 301 Hazel Street, starting at 2:00 p.m. The blessing is open to the community. Please bring a chair of blanket. St. Paul’s will be collecting items for the Jackson County Humane Society. Items needed are laundry detergent, bleach, bottled water and dog food. The dry dog food requested from Tractor Supply is Choice Chops, Purina Adult Complete, and Purina Puppy Complete. The preferred dog food from Wal-Mart is Purina Puppy Tender and Crunchy, Ol Roy Chicken or Rice.

The Newcomers Souper Tuesday is Tuesday, October 7, located at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost of the lunch is by donation and don’t miss the bake sale.
Join the Newport Community Garden Initiative for Volunteer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, October 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All volunteers are welcome. This event is hosted by First United Methodist Church and Merchants and Planters Bank. Also return for a Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 25, starting at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited for pumpkin painting, cake walk, harvest of fall crops and more.
Mark your calendars for the ASUN Fall Festival on Thursday, October 9, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. This free family event will feature bounce houses, delicious food, pumpkin decorating, snow cones, a hayride, carnival games, cotton candy, a cake walk, and live music for everyone to enjoy. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for a fun evening outdoors. Plus, participants will have the chance to win cash prizes through prize drawings during the event. Don’t miss this exciting celebration of fall with activities the whole family will love.
On Friday, October 10, 2025, the Manna Food Pantry will host a Boston Butt and Rib Fundraiser to support local families in need. Nothing brings people together like slow-smoked barbecue, and this event is a chance to enjoy delicious food while giving back to the community. Pre-orders are available for $40 per Boston butt, $30 per rack of ribs, $20 for a half butt, and $15 for a half rack. All proceeds will directly benefit the Manna Food Pantry. The City of Swifton invites everyone to come out for the Harvest Carnival on Friday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street in Swifton. This family-friendly event will feature food, fun, games, and a Trunk-or-Treat, making it the perfect way to enjoy the fall season with friends and neighbors. Don’t forget to wear your costume and join in the celebration.
The City of Newport, Newport Economic Development Commission and the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce will be closed Monday, October 13, in observance of Columbus Day. Monday’s residential garbage route will run on Tuesday, October 14. Tuesday’s residential garbage route will run on Wednesday, October 15. Regular residential pickup will resume on Thursday and Friday.
The Jackson County Community Theatre presents The Addams Family A New Musical Comedy on October 24 – 26 located at ASUN Center for the Arts. On Friday, October 24, the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26, the show begins at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10 and for children 12 and under are $5. Come to the Downtown Newport Farmers Market for a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Join the fun with craft vendors, food, and fall carnival games.
Trunk or Treat will be Thursday, October 30, located behind the Village Mall from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All trick or treaters must park at the front or the side of the Village Mall. To donate candy for this event you may take donations to the Newport Police Department or to Modern Woodmen of America.
P.E.O. Chapter R is sponsoring a Fall Fundraiser to win a deep freezer full of prepared meals, meats, breads, and desserts. Proceeds go to support young women in the community who want to further their education with scholarships. Tickets are one for $10, three for $25, and fifteen for $100.
