"Rock & Roll Record Girl" was the one song I especially wanted to release because it was the A-side of the one and only single by Bobby Poe and The Poe Kats. It originally came out almost 70 years ago on Dallas label White Rock Records.

It's a mishmash of styles and genres...in other words, a true Rockabilly Rocker. It has my dad channeling Red Foley, one of his early favorites. Big Al Downing nails Little Richard with his vocals, with my dad following with some Jerry Lee Lewis. Vernon Sandusky adds some incendiary bursts of lead guitar with his Stratocaster, one of the first Stratocasters ever made. Drummer Joe Brawley is rock steady, pushing the song along all the while. All heady stuff for 1957, when my dad was 23 and everyone else was in their late teens.

So I thought licensing "Rock & Roll Record Girl" would be complicated, but DistroKid Distribution made the whole licensing process quick and easy, not to mention inexpensive. So now I've done what I set out to do - get at least some of my dad's music out to the world, now on the label he founded, Kansoma Records.
