Her name is Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele-Bello popularly known as Funke Akindele, a veteran Nigerian actress, producer, director and politician.
Funke Akindele was born on August 24, 1977 in Ikorodu, Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. She is currently 46 years old. She is the second child in a family of 3; two girls and a boy. Her mother is a medical doctor while her father is a retired school principal.
Funke Akindele attended her primary and secondary school education at Grace Children's School, Gbagada, Lagos State where she obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing her secondary school education, Funke Akindele proceeded to Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Mooshood Abiola Polytechnic and obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication. She thereafter proceeded to University of Lagos and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law.
Funke Akindele joined the Nigerian movie industry professionally in 1998. In 2002, she rose to prominence after featuring in United Nations Population Fund sponsored sitcom television series titled "I Need to Know" In the TV series, she played 'Bisi', a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student.
In 2008, she rose to fame after starring in the movie "Jenifa".
Due to her outstanding performance in "Jenifa", Funke Akindele has earned several movie roles for herself in the movie industry acting alongside prominent A-list Nollywood actors and actresses like Pete Edochie, Clarion Chukwurah, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Bimbo Akintola, Nkiru Sylvanus, Nkem Owoh, Ebele Okaro, Genevieve Nnaji, to mention a few.
In 2016, she wrote, produced and acted as the lead character in the Nigerian television comedy series "Jenifa's Diary", starring alongside Fisayo Ajisola, Falz, Juliana Olayode and Aderounmu Adejumoke. The series has 28 seasons and is currently active and ongoing.
In 2019, she made her cinematic directorial debut in the political drama film, "Your Excellency".
In 2020, she co-directed, produced and acted in the Nigerian gangster comedy film "Omo Ghetto: The Saga", starring alongside Chioma Akpota, Nancy Isime, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Deyemi Okanlawon and Mercy Aigbe in the lead roles.
In 2022, Funke Akindele was nominated as the Lagos deputy governorship candidate under Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria) in the 2023 elections.
In September 2023, she released her movie "She Must Be Obeyed" where she served as the co-director, producer and lead actress in the movie. The movie was premired by Amazon Prime Amazon.
Funke Akindele is also a philanthropist. She runs a non-governmental organization known as the Jenifa Foundation, which aims at providing young people with vocational skills.
Funke Akindele is very beautiful, gifted, skillful, creative and highly talented actress known for her good interpretation of movie roles. She knows how to interpret her role very well and can fit in any character assigned to her by movie directors and producers in Nigeria.
She always features in romantic movies, comedy and action thriller movies.
She is known for Jenifa (2008), Double Trouble (2017), Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020), Battle on Buka Street (2022) and she is set to release her new movie "A Tribe Called Judah" in cinemas on December 15, 2023.
On May 26, 2012, Funke Akindele got married to her estranged husband, Mr. Adeola Kehinde Oloyede and in July 2013, the couple divorced, citing irreconcilable differences.
After the divorce of her first husband, in May 2016, Funke Akindele got married again, to Nigeriian rapper JJC Skillz in London and the union was blessed with twin boys. In June 30, 2022, her estranged husband, JJC Skillz announced the end of the union between him and the popular actress.
