OYF PARTNERS NEMA TO PUT SMILES ON THE FACES OF OGONI PEOPLE, DISTRIBUTE RELIEF MATERIALS
As part of its effort to provide temporary relief to victims of the recent crisis that rocked Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State last year, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on the request of the Ogoni Youths Federation distributed relief materials to the people of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Walson Braden who supervised the distribution of the materials commended the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Comrade Yamaabana Legborsi and his team for rising to the occasion to alleviate the suffering of the victims of crisis in Ogoniland, especially in this trying time of Covid19 pandemic. He further reiterated the readiness of NEMA to alleviate the sufferings of victims of disaster anywhere in the country.
On his part, the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Comrade Yamaabana while speaking at the sideline of the distribution narrated that the move by the OYF become imperative to ameliorate the loss incurred during the insurgency period in Ogoni. The Ogoni Youth Boss urged all organizations in Ogoni and Rivers State to always rise to the occasion and seek solution to any act that jeopardizes the very extant of humanity. He appreciated Ogoni stakeholders who embraced the idea and assured them of the dogged determination of OYF under his administration to continue to provide succor such as this to the people, and do everything possible to advocate for the collective interest and wellbeing of the Ogoni Nation.
You will recall that the Ogoni Youth Federation pained by the frequent killing and dynamiting of houses that bedeviled Ogoniland late 2019, had on the 30th November, 2019 written to NEMA requesting it to provide relief materials for the people. Afterwards, the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation visited NEMA’s headquarters in Abuja severally to ensure that the materials are sent to the people.
Due to the proscription of public gathering to avert the spread of covid19 by the Rivers State Government, the distribution pattern was done on representative basis in order not to gather crowd, each community brought a representative and the items was given to those representatives who in return went to their various communities to distribute same to the beneficiaries.
The relief materials distributed included; bags of rice, bags of beans, mattresses, bundles of roofing sheets, nails, bedsheets among others.
Earlier, Mrs. Patricia Uedum who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries lauded the gesture and urge for more in view of Covid19 and the number of people affected by the crisis. She commended thanked NEMA and Ogoni Youth Federation for facilitating the relief materials and vowed to make good use of the items distributed #
