Great news regarding the future of Baguley Hall! 🏛️

It has been announced that Heritage Trust North West has been selected to take ownership of the stunning Grade I-listed medieval building right here in Wythenshawe.

The Trust is set to work alongside the local community to develop plans for the Hall's future, with a focus on ensuring public access.

About the Hall:
Dating back to the late 13th century, Baguley Hall is one of the oldest and finest timber-framed halls in the North West. It features incredible soaring timber beams and a central hearth that once heated a medieval household.

It’s wonderful to see such a positive step for our local history!

💔 End of an Era for The Park Pub?

Sad news for the Wythenshawe community: The former Park Pub on Moorcroft Road is facing demolition. Developer Watson has submitted plans to replace the long-vacant site with 35 affordable apartments.

This 1970s JW Lees pub was once a true community hub—a place where people gathered, celebrated, and even hosted events like 'Wythenshawe’s Got Talent.' While the developers call this a "new chapter," it's hard not to feel nostalgic about losing a local landmark.

The planning application is in, marking the potential end of this historic brownfield site near Wythenshawe Park.

Do you have any memories at the Park Pub?

St Martin’s Church on Blackcarr Road in Baguley has stood in Wythenshawe since 1959. Designed by Harry S. Fairhurst & Son, it’s a good example of post-war modern church architecture — built when Wythenshawe was growing fast and new neighbourhood churches were being added across the estate.

The church served the local community for decades but has since closed and fallen into disuse. Services moved to the nearby church hall for a time, and the main building has now been left empty. Though no longer in use, St Martin’s remains a familiar landmark and a reminder of the post-war years when Wythenshawe was taking shape.

Now it sits abandoned in disrepair as seen here in Bon Scott urban exploration photos.

“Inside Britain’s biggest bank data-bunker: 1971 Barclays Computer Centre in Wythenshawe sits abandoned—what secrets lie within its steel shell?”

Here are some standout facts:

The building opened in 1971 as a computer/data-centre facility for Barclays.

At the time of opening it was reportedly Britain’s largest computer centre.

The site covered about 110,000 sq ft (≈10,200 m²).

The original cost was about £2.75 million in 1971 money (equivalent to over £30 million today).

It served as one of Barclays’ two major UK computer operations until it closed in the 1990s.

The building has been long vacant and is now part of regeneration plans in the Wythenshawe area.

One local explorer noted:

> “Barclay’s Bank Computer Centre then it closed due to high levels of asbestos and then connections took over the bottom floor …”

It’s a shame to see the building left like this, what do you think should be there?
