Finally Volume 3 of Marietta is here!! (link in bio)

Sincerest thanks to the artists who contributed their time and honesty to this volume of Marietta. These interviews specifically face what we have been dealing with as artists, since March. From quarantine to BLM, these artists open themselves up about their struggles and methods of finding joy, and what their role in this new world is. We have all struggled with unanswerable questions in this reflective time and it is the hope of Marietta Magazine to give some insight to others about what is universal— that we find consolation in the similarities in our experiences, as well as insight into our differences. Please consider connecting with us by sharing in our experiences. Your financial contribution to Marietta goes directly back into the magazine and into our community.

Artists in Vol. 3 of Marietta include: Rumela Mitra, Lauren Gutierrez, Joe Wakeman, Holly Overton, Jamika Ajalon, Lala Drona, .y.n9 GOODW.Y.N, .schreiner Erica Schreiner, Tasha Lutek, Sean Spada, Ellen Frank, Nyssa Frank, Natalie Fisk, Mary Negro, Austance Caroline, Lea Wülferth, ToM Zarzecki, Crispin Rosenkranz, Yael Barron, Jack Freedman, Ventiko, Dehlia Ackley

(Also, if you feel called to be an editor/partner to Marietta Magazine, we need you. Please email us at [email protected])

Nicole has some upcoming performance dates, so I thought this would be a great time to share those (below) and our new cover for ! Photo by .y.n9 is one of the most vulnerable, inspired, knock-out performance artists I have the honor of knowing. Maybe you saw her performance at last year, that moved us all to tears? Do yourself a favor and catch her live. She’s performing her piece, “Ain’t I a Woman (?/!): Black August
Harlem (8/3)- W 125 & Adam Clayton

Soon we will announce the other contributors to Marietta! We’re still waiting on the USPS for our first printed-proof of Vol. 3. Hoping to release sometime in August.

Submissions now open for our quarantine/isolation issue. Our hope is that this project brings us closer together in a time of isolation. So, please participate. You will have an interview-like conversation with another artist. These interviews should be about both people and their experience during quarantine and how this is helping or hurting their art. If you’d like to know what our previous issues are like, and how these conversations flow, they’re available for free download (link in bio) during quarantine.

These conversations should be had in person/phone and then be transcribed. https://sonix.ai/ is a transcription software that offers a free half hour trial. This is what we recommend. And keeping the conversation to a half hour is also a nice length for readers, though we have no limits on this. After transcription, we also ask that you edit out all the ‘um and likes’ so the conversations flow beautifully.

Please email completed interviews and questions to: [email protected]

Since we do not know the future of our isolation, we may not have a launch party as we have in the past, but this will be a printed magazine and also available for download.

Meet Marcus Fischer, the Portland Sound Artist Invited to the 2019 Whitney Biennial

Experimental sound artist, Marcus Fischer in the upcoming issue of Marietta Magazine celebrated in 2019 Whitney Biennial. https://www.portlandmercury.com/visual-art/2019/04/25/26368711/meet-marcus-fischer-the-portland-sound-artist-invited-to-the-2019-whitney-biennial

Marcus Fischer’s sound installation art is as impressive to look at as it is to hear. His piece “Canopy/Harmonic Chorus,” which was on display at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) last year as part of The Snake exhibition, ran tape loops from floor to ceiling and through small...
