Everything I Carried On My Back for El Camino de Santiago Inglés Route.
📌Save this and follow along if you’re planning your own Camino de Santiago journey!
If you’ve been watching my IG Stories recently, you’ll know I’m walking from Ferrol to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It’s 119 KM (75 Miles), and I’m not stopping for rest days.
For those that don’t know, the Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is a network of historic pilgrimage routes in Europe leading to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in the northwest Galicia region of Spain.
These paths were first established in the 9th century, and while historically a major Christian pilgrimage, today it also attracts people from all walks of life for any spiritual, cultural, and recreational reasons.
Without water, my Tempest 33L backpack came out to ~9-10KG (about 20-22 lbs), which is WAY over the 10% body weight advice…
Usually, I can pack within an hour, but packing for this took me a week and I was stressed the whole time 🥴.
To have an authentic pilgrim experience, I did not use a bag courier service for any location…
This is one of the biggest questions people ask when preparing for the Camino: should you carry your own pack or use a service? The weight really matters, and is at your discretion!
Obviously, bringing my camera added weight, but including it was a non-negotiable since I’m a photographer.
I’ll be posting a ton about my experience on the Camino Inglés, including packing tips, how to prepare, and what to expect.
Buen Camino!
