🐝 Creating art with found wasp and bird nests, dead insects, and dried plants // Follow Lisa
Since finding my first wasp nest upon opening a parasol about 7 years ago, I have been fascinated by these amazing structures. So I put in my display cabinet... or curiosity cabinet as it should be called.
As friends saw these, they too started collecting on my behalf: Jackie found a giant hornet's nest in the woods, Najiba had several wasp nests hidden under the eaves of her house, Marie-Pierre brought me the male stag beetle, and Manuèle gifted me the physalis plant (aka Chinese lantern) that was her mother's.
Along the way, I found many other dead insects either outside or inside my house: a butterfly, a female stag beetle, a pink spotted hawkmoth, a few buff-tailed bumblebees, a carpenter bee, and a ladybug. I couldn't help but put them in the cabinet or in my dollhouse along with the other wonders.
Three years ago, I found the large nest (I think it is from a common blackbird) and recently a small nest (I haven't identified what type of bird this is from but we have a lot of blue t**s in the area). Both found on the road after major storms in our area.
One day at the Geneva (Switzerland) flea market, I came across these funny-looking acorns and have now identified them from a burr oak tree. The "normal" ones are from the 200 year-old oak in our road.
I hope you enjoy this creation. I would love to hear your comments.
