Harvey Fierstein impacted me all my young life to today, but I remember when he said that if one day every one of us who were lgbtqia turned purple how amazing it would be for folks to realize we are your brothers, son, sisters, daughters, officers, nurses, doctors, dock workers, our waiters, your artists, your plumbers, your fire fighters, your neighbors. we are just people and everywhere. Not a behavoir, a whole human being. Coming out, while in many cases so brave, was in of itself a claim on being. It was creating place and being firm in that we, like all humanity are perfectly and wonderfully imperfectly, humanly made and hold the same love, the same grace and the same place as all. I pray the love, the peace, and the good for all on the journey through the stigmas, the politicizing, the shaming. and the false witnessing in religion, to know the peace of that sense of freedom and good in being you and the love that surpasses all understanding that rises above all humanly disconnects. For you belong, you are loved, and WE, are all a part of what makes this world the better. Happy National Coming Out day.

Prepare DON"t Despair! from our NYC Emergency Management As of the 11:00 am update, Milton is a Category 4 storm with 145mph winds as he pushes his way toward a late Thursday night/early Friday morning landfall in the Tampa Bay region of Florida. Although the storm will pass some 250 south of us and does not pose a significant risk, it is important to remember that storms like this still affect us. It's important to monitor updates for changes in the storm path as the storm progresses. NHC EM continues to monitor Milton and will keep you updated on any changes.

We can plan on:

Heavy surf, rip currents, and rough seas will be the primary concern for the rest of the week.
Winds here Thursday will be 10-15mph throughout the day with occasional gusts closer to 20mph.
We are not anticipating measurable rain as Milton passes to the south.

But, don't let your guard down! There are 53 days left in the 2024 Hurricane Season, and there is still a lot you can do to make sure your family and home are safe in case our region faces more storms.

When a storm does come, focus on possible impacts, regardless of the storm size or category. Remember – it doesn't even have to have a name! As we saw with Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) 8, a storm impacting our region doesn't need a name to be a problem.

If you live somewhere it rains, you could face flooding hazards. Check around your property to make sure water can flow freely, clear out gutters and drainage catchments, and talk to your insurance agent about proper flood insurance protection.
57% of tropical weather deaths are due to rainfall-induced freshwater flooding.

Be aware of areas that commonly flood during "regular" rain events and consider how that affects you. Have alternate routes to take when water that is usually not flowing over the road is, and remember to Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Your car is not a boat.

Understand the forecast information. The "cone" is not the exact path of the storm…the center of the storm could wander anywhere in the cone, and you can see storm impacts well outside of the cone. Use official forecasts and resources offered by the National Hurricane Center (www.hurricanes.gov) and our local National Weather Service Office (www.weather.gov/ilm) to get the best information on impacts on weather in our area.
