We are already living with so much pain, and now we hear that funding is declining. This news brings even more fear to our lives. In the camps, food is already limited, and sometimes we go to sleep hungry. As a parent, the hardest thing is looking at my child and not knowing what to give him to eat. We did not choose this life โ€” we were forced into it. Now, with less aid, our suffering will only grow. The world must not forget us. We need support until we can return home with rights, safety, and dignity.

Media is powerful, and I beg the world to use it wisely. Too often, I see stories that blame us instead of telling the truth about our suffering. We are not criminals; we are victims of genocide, forced to flee our homeland in Arakan. In the refugee camps of Bangladesh, our lives are trapped between barbed wires and uncertainty, yet the world barely hears us. The media should be our voice โ€” to show our pain, our hopes, and our demand for justice. Share our truth, not blame. Only then will the world understand why we must return home with dignity.

-Ahmad, Rohingya Child

I was born in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, far from the land my parents call home. I have never seen our village in Arakan, but my mother fills my heart with stories of green fields, rivers, and the freedom they once had. She tells me how they lived with dignity before the violence tore everything apart. For me, life has only been about fences, crowded shelters, and restrictions. I dream of walking in my homeland, of praying in our mosque, of living without fear. I donโ€™t want to grow old in exile. I want to return home, with rights and dignity.

We are Rohingya people living in exile in Bangladesh. Our lives feel like a football, kicked from every side, with no place to rest. Myanmar denies us our rights, Bangladesh shelters us but cannot give us a future, and the world debates endlessly while our suffering continues. Children grow up without education, young people without opportunities, and the elderly without peace. We do not want to remain refugees forever. Exile is worse than death. Even if the road is dangerous, we want to return to our homeland, Arakan, with dignity, rights, and justice.

Even if the road is dangerous, we want to return to Arakan; exile is worse than death. For years, we have lived in refugee camps in Bangladesh, far from the soil where our ancestors lived and prayed. Life here is uncertainโ€”crowded shelters, no future for our children, and a constant reminder that we are not free. Arakan is our only home, the land that gives us identity and dignity. We know the risks of going back, but staying in exile has already stolen our lives. What we ask is simple: justice, recognition, and the right to return to our homeland.

For eight long years, we, the Rohingya, have been living in exile in Bangladesh, carrying the scars of genocide and displacement. Our hearts ache for Arakan, our homeland, where we once lived with dignity before persecution drove us away. The world observes the Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day, we remind the global community of our pain and our hope. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called us โ€œone of the most discriminated and vulnerable communities on Earth.โ€ His words echo our reality. We do not seek pityโ€”only justice, rights, and a safe return to our homes. Arakan is where we belong.

Every time we hear voices like Malala Yousafzai speak about us, we feel both pain and hope. Pain, because our lives in the refugee camps of Bangladesh are filled with struggles, crowded shelters, no proper education, and no certainty about tomorrow. Hope, because the world still remembers us, and leaders continue to call for justice. We, the Rohingya, are not asking for luxury, only dignity and a chance to return home. Our children dream of growing up in peace in Arakan, not in camps. We deserve a future, just like every child in the world, with safety, rights, and belonging.

Every day in the camps of Bangladesh, we live with the pain of losing our homeland. We are Rohingya, yet in Myanmar we were stripped of citizenship, dignity, and the right to live freely. Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon once said, โ€œThe continued plight of the Rohingya is a stain on our collective conscience. They must be granted citizenship and their rights must be protected.โ€ His words echo our deepest hope. We do not want to remain refugees forever. We are trapped in limbo, without rights, without dignity, and without certainty about tomorrow. Our children grow up without education, our elders die without seeing their land again. We are grateful to Bangladesh for shelter, but we cannot live here forever. Our hearts, our dreams, and our graves belong to Arakan. The world must hear us: help us return home with dignity, justice, and safety.

A cry of longing, pain, and unshaken attachment to the homeland. For every Rohingya, Arakan is not just a place on the mapโ€”it is the soul of their existence, the land of their ancestors, the home they dream of returning to with dignity and rights.

Another 25th August has passed, marking yet another year of the Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day. For us, this day is not just about memories, it is about our unending wait for justice and the hope of returning to our homeland. Eight years have gone by, yet the promise of safe and dignified repatriation remains uncertain. Our homes in Arakan were burned, our families torn apart, and our lives uprooted. Here in the camps, fences may guard us, but they cannot guard our future. We do not seek sympathy alone, we seek dignity, freedom, and the right to belong. Our struggle continues.
