When I was in the 8th grade, I became friends with a girl who was suicidal. I would talk to her every day for about 4 months as she explained to me the thoughts that would chew away the love for herself. One day, she became overfilled with depression and told me that she was going home to kill herself. I took this very seriously and informed the school about her plan. The school called her to the

office and took the appropriate measures to prevent her from harming herself. Later, she came to me crying and screaming that I had betrayed her and our friendship for informing the school about her suicidal thoughts. Before we graduated the 8th grade, she gave me a friendship bracelet as an apology, thanking me for saving her life. Four years later, I still have this bracelet and will hold on to it forever to remind me that although depression can be overwhelming, the power of friendship and love brings freedom.
