Great article on Snips Movies… seeing a resurgence in old school video rental. Well worth a read.
I’m not surprised people or going back to renting discs, with streaming platforms popping up everywhere and prices constantly rising. Would you consider renting discs again?
Hopefully none of you choked on your cornflakes when you turned to page 29 of The Mirror this morning...
One of the seismic shifts with Snips Movies over the last two years has been the number of younger renters who have discovered the place and are renting films by the bucketload. I’m thrilled that The Mirror got in touch to speak to some of them about why they’ve gotten rid of services like Netflix and Disney+ in favour of renting from a rental store. Cost plays a huge part, as does selection.
After all, why subscribe to seven different streaming platforms for a total of £100 a month, when there’s a place that has 17,000 movies at £1.67 each. There’s no late fees, and no stopwatch on when you have to watch it by.
In addition to that, by having so many films behind a plethora of prohibitive paywalls, we're in danger of stifling a generation of cinephiles. *Everyone* should have access to a wide range of movies for a low cost. It shouldn't come down to how many streamers you can afford.
Thanks to Kai, Matt, and Nathan for giving up their precious time this week to feature in this article, and also thanks to Charlie, James, Aaron, and Sam for making themselves available if necessary.
