Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract by Polat Enerji, one of Turkey's leading investors in the renewable energy sector, to supply a large-scale battery energy storage system with a capacity of 132 MWh. The mtu QG EnergyPack will be integrated into the Göktepe Wind Power Plant near Yalova in northwestern Turkey and will ensure that electricity from renewable sources can be fed into the grid without interruption.

The plant helps to increase the stability of the Turkish power grid and, thanks to the integration of renewable energies, to reduce CO2 emissions. When the wind is strong and the turbines in the wind farm generate more electricity than the grid can absorb, the surplus energy is stored in the battery systems.
