Five years ago today, we released “Antigone,” a collaborative piece from transcendental black metal band and NYC-based avant-pop duo .

The track weaves two distinct threads: the bronzed grandiosity of Liturgy’s soaring, ecstatic swells of guitar and drums cedes to the ghostly roll of harp chords and electric violin/voice melancholy, then returns with propulsive roil to a climactic ending. The resulting song within a song takes the listener on a journey that is both exhilarating and somber, an expression of feeling that draws from two groups pushing toward opposite energetic poles of a balance between the sublime and the damned.

Premiered by and covered by , “Antigone” remains a compelling document of two forward-thinking projects in dialogue.

From the mind of emerging underground pop superstar Shane Lavers aka Chanel Beads emerges this stunning rework of medieval-meets-future duo LEYA’s “Corners,” the ebullient lead single from their recent EP, I Forget Everything. Drawing a strange lineage between the two New York bands, Lavers creates a track that is both anticipatory and resolute, subtly vast in the way that much of his work ties together hissing and gorgeous sound collage with an airtight rap-like pop sensibility.

OHYUNG describes their new album as “my trans self and my former self in conversation, from both perspectives.” The record represents their lengthy, complicated, but crucial journey between lives, strewn with both doubt and excitement. It is an ecstatic, pop-oriented shift in direction from an artist primarily known for noise, experimental hip-hop, and ambient music, but carried with sleek confidence, maturity, and a silvery, hallucinogenic shimmer that reveals Rusli’s experimental background. Out today on NNA Tapes: “Corners,” the first single from LEYA’s upcoming I Forget Everything, provides a beguiling glimpse into the duo’s future, a gorgeous, focused reimaging of their sound that is still unmistakably raw.

I Forget Everything marks LEYA’s first return to the studio since 2022’s collaborative mixtape Eyeline, and their first release sans collaborators since 2020’s breakout classical-meets-everything tome Flood Dream.
