If ye told me about a year ago that I would be resurrecting my Fortified Audio label to put out an albums worth of Trap music I'd have said you were off your rocker, but here we are....

Still processing the news about Jack really. Had only seen him a couple of times in the last ten years. I’ll be honest I thought he was a right cocky wee t**t at first 🙈 We became firm pals after I’d warned him that an act he’d booked was a bit “Unhinged” and I think he thought I was just jealous that I hadn’t booked them. The Monday after it he’d sent me a message on the old miscreat forum saying he wished he’d listened as it was an absolute nightmare.

When I was doing the Thursday night flyer run driving the troops about (circa 2007 - 2010 I think) it would often be just me and him in the car and we bonded over out love of Detroit Techno , Scran, talking about breaking up with girls, clothes and of course UK Funky. I’d enjoy winding him up whenever he’d say have you heard this tune by responding “ Yeah I got it on white label six months ago” Sometimes this wasn’t always true but it was fun to see him get annoyed.

Despite his wide boy public persona I found him to be a kind and sensitive soul, who would go out of his way to help anyone. He did this with me in spades, giving me round the clock advice when I was setting up the Fortified Audio label. I don’t really think I’d have put any of those records out if it wasn’t for Jack pushing me. It’s mad to think that the people he gave similar help to is easily in the hundreds.

He harangued me for ages to let Numbers put on Skream ( Olly was seen as a “Fortifed” guest by Jack as we were to first to book him in Glasgow and I respected the fact that he respected that, he could have just booked him anyway as Numbers were far more renowned than my wee club night) and eventually I relented.

I’ll never forget that night or our back to back which was funny as Jack was always moaning at me to speed up my mixing - we were doing three on three off and he was moaning that I was getting more deck time than him 😂 The party back at mine was epically messy.🙈

I’ll also never forget that he stepped in last minute to fill in for Shut Up and Dance & Oneman whose flight got cancelled and refused to take a penny as it was my 35th birthday that night. It would have been good to hang about with him in Ibiza as he offered to ten years ago when I visited with pals but I fell down two flights of stairs on my first night and fu**ed myself up. Loosing Jack in similar fashion really makes me think about how lucky I was that time. He still got all my pals on the guestie like a proper legend.

Shame to think I’ll never randomly bump into him again, my thought are with your family and close friends who will miss you much more than I do already.
