𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗔𝗪, 𝗗𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗪 ! 🌸🎉

Today, we celebrate Kadayawan, the city's vibrant tribute to Davao's rich heritage, abundant harvest, and the unity of its people. This annual festival began as a simple thanksgiving ritual to honor nature’s gifts and has since grown into one of the Philippines’ grandest cultural celebrations.

At the heart of this celebration are the 11 ethnolinguistic tribes of Davao — Ata, Bagobo Klata, Bagobo Tagabawa, Matigsalug, Obo Manuvu, Iranun, Kagan, Maguindanaon, Maranao, Sama, and Tausug

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | The United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) National Council officially opened its 30th National Council Meeting on August 14, 2025, at the Sampaguita Hall of the Brokenshire Resort and Convention Complex.

In line with UCCP’s Core Value of Faith, the gathering began with an opening worship led by Rev. Aldren Jovita of the Agusan District Conference (ADC). This moment of prayer served as a collective plea for divine guidance throughout the meeting—seeking clarity in decisions, unity in purpose, and harmony among members, while keeping away from discord and division.

Marking the formal commencement of the proceedings, UCCP National Chairperson Mr. Jessie D. Garcia struck the gavel—a symbolic act that signaled the shift from fellowship to official business. More than tradition, the sound of the gavel served as a call to order, a reminder that every discussion from this point forward would shape the shared mission and direction of the Church.

On August 8, 2025, the Brokenshire College Inc., Pharmacy Program of the Allied Health Department proudly held its White Coat and Pinning Ceremony with the theme “Carrying the Flame of Service, Clothed in White with Pride: Bridging Classroom Knowledge to Real-World Pharmacy Practice.” The event took place from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Grand Regal Hotel Davao, marking a significant milestone for 46 pharmacy candidates as they took their first symbolic step toward professional practice.

The ceremony commenced with moments of silent meditation and the lighting of the Christ candle, followed by a solemn processional of candidates, faculty, administrators, and the school chaplain. Highlights of the program included the opening remarks by Dr. Felix C. Chavez Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, and an inspirational message from Ma. Gilda S. Saljay, RPh, who encouraged students to uphold integrity, compassion, and excellence in their profession.

In her speech, the guest speaker emphasized the deeper meaning of the white coat, describing it as “a symbol of responsibility and purpose, it carries the weight of lives, the book of healing, and the silent promise to always act in the best interest of the patient.”

Symbolic offerings including a cross, Bible, candle, flowers, money, fruits, intern uniform, pin, and nameplate were presented by selected students, representing the values and responsibilities of the pharmacy profession. The consecration of these offerings, led by Rev. Grace Alquiza Bangisan, D.Min, added a deeper spiritual meaning to the occasion.

The pinning and donning of the white coat served as the most anticipated part of the ceremony, symbolizing the students’ formal transition from classroom learners to future healthcare professionals. This was followed by the oath-taking, led by Joseph Casuyon, RPh, where the candidates pledged to uphold the ethics and responsibilities of the profession.

A tribute to parents and a candle-light ceremony added a heartfelt touch, while the Pharmacy Hymn and Hymn of Dedication reflected the pride and unity of the students in their chosen field.

To officially begin their service as student nurses to the healthcare community, Brokenshire College held its 71st Nursing Cap, Pin, and Candle Light Ceremony with the theme "Rebuilding and Restoring with Hope: Heralding the New Heaven and the New Earth” on August 6 at the SMX Lanang Convention Center. Nursing students, their parents, clinical instructors, and faculty members attended the event, filled with joy as they witnessed a moment of pride for the campus.

The program began with a processional and the usual preliminaries, followed by an invocation led by Rev. Dr. Grace Bangisan, School Chaplain, and a welcoming address delivered by Dr. Felix C. Chavez, Jr., BC Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services. A heartfelt message from Dr. Raymundo D. Doce III resonated with the audience as he emphasized the responsibility that comes with wearing the cap and pin as future healthcare professionals.

“Our student nurses, you will start with your canvas. Paint your canvas in any color, any material, any design that you want,” Dr. Doce said, encouraging them to begin their stories as newly capped and pinned student nurses.

In addition, symbolic offerings were presented, each carrying a meaningful representation:

1. Cross – Represents Jesus’ victory over sin and death.
2. Holy Bible – The Word of God, guiding us in our lives.
3. Candle – Symbolizes light in the darkness of life and the spirit of truth.
4. Nurse’s Pin – Reminds candidates that they represent a Christian learning institution that values "Fides et Servitium" (Faith and Service).
5. Nurse’s Uniform – Gives identity to those who wear it, symbolizing readiness to respond to any call of duty as student nurses.
6. Lamp – Represents the nursing tradition of selfless work and dedication, honoring Florence Nightingale’s tireless service to the wounded.
7. Flowers – Symbolize the beauty of nature, bringing joy even though some are protected by thorns.
8. Fruits – Remind us that we are the branches, called to abide in Jesus’ divine presence and live fruitful lives.
9. Money – Serves as a reminder that everything we have comes from God, the source of all good and perfect gifts.

Furthermore, when the candidates were called to the stage, their smiles beamed as their clinical instructors proudly placed their caps and pins, while they held their lighted candles. This was followed by the charge delivered by Bishop Hamuel Tequis, School President, as he officially welcomed them into the noble calling of nursing.

“I challenge each one of you to equip your learning to care for others,” he said. “You reflect the grace of God through your courses.”

Candidate Casphea Jeanelle B. Gamboa responded to the charge, saying:

“Today, as we wear our caps and pins, something changes. We are no longer students of nursing — we are stewards of care.”

The program ended with a heartfelt moment as the newly capped and pinned nurses turned to face their parents and proudly sang “The Climb", a song that echoed the many challenges they have overcome throughout their journey.
