Here's a thing that you can do as a way to support change from home. Your mileage may vary and only you know your own circumstances/finances.
BUY directly from small businesses and makers.
PRIORITIZE marganalized small businesses and makers.
One action I've taken to doing is buying my coffee and teas directly from marginalized makers. Yes it often costs more than things like buying in bulk from Costco. Yes it can take longer because it often involves getting things shipped to me here in NV. And I know I am directly supporting a marganalized maker. In the example here I'm putting my purchasing power into an amazing small roaster based in Oakland, CA - . They were founded by Keba Konte in 2014 and strive to be diverse and inclusive of those who have been traditionally left out of the specialty coffee industry, especially people of color, the formerly incarcerated, women, and people with disabilities.
I have been super loving on Red Bay Coffee for the last month. I bought 4 different varieties and am about to use up the last of my bag of Brazilian Cake Lady. It's a super delightful medium roast with light fresh flavors that play well with my non-dairy creamers (oat, almond, or coconut) AND with my protein shakes in place of creamers habits.
10/10 absolutely recommend. ☕
I'll post more reviews as I work my way through the other roasts I snagged.
