Last year, we forecasted the Phillies breaking their postseason drought and breaking the franchise's single-season home run record. Only one of those things happened. The team set its home run record in 2009 with 224. While I personally don't feel like this is the group to break it, especially without Rhys Hoskins, we are still in for another summer of homer filled afternoons and evenings....

It’s a site that baseball fanatics frequent as a treasure trove of information, possessing the answer to nearly all of your questions. Baseball Reference can send you down a wormhole like few other websites can. I’ve found myself, blessed with a lot of free time right now, getting lost in its pages more often. On top of that, I find myself seeking out something to do that’s remotely involved with what I studied as I navigate the postgrad world....

Here we are. Once again. Phillies baseball every now and then. The greatest niche contest in the history of ever. The Challenge. Started two summers ago as I worked in pizza delivery down the shore and had fallen in love with Gabe Kapler’s (I miss you dearly Gabe) 2018 Phillies, the contest is back for a fourth summer. What is the Challenge exactly?...

Being good is bad in the NBA. This is not a mental gymnastics type of take for you. It’s simply the guiding principle of success and team life cycles in the NBA. Good basketball teams have a superstar or a well gelled roster, win a solid number of games, but are never quite there when it’s time for someone to accept the Larry O’Brien trophy....

It was a feeling all too familiar to the one that Eagles fans are feeling right now. Dysfunction, a power struggle between the head coach and Howie Roseman, costly personnel decisions and a former top pick at quarterback that the fans lamented as injury prone and questioned whether he was a part of their future. In just over two years, Doug Pederson helped transform what appeared to be a directionless dumpster fire of decision making into the franchise’s only Super Bowl victory, delivering a day and moment that so many had only ever dreamed of....

An empty field within an empty stadium. It was noon on a Saturday in November at Lincoln Financial Field, the Temple Owls were scheduled to host the Pirates of East Carolina in the penultimate game of the season. It was an eerie silence and even more disturbing lack of humanity before Evan Boozer wandered into sight. News trickled out of the locker rooms....

Former Temple baseball head coach Ryan Wheeler can still feel the pain of his former players looking back at him when the athletic administration told the team they were being cut in 2013. He still carries the memory of sitting alone following the program’s final game in Clearwater, Florida. The emotions are still there over six years after his Owls wrapped up the program’s 87th and closing season. [ 1,523 more word ]

December 10th, 1990. Seventeen year old Frank Vogel awoke to smoke and the undoubted presence of fire in his family’s home. He and his mother, the only two in the house, escaped but the fire consumed everything the Vogels owned. The early morning fire didn’t stop Vogel from going to basketball practice that day or from playing in the team’s holiday tournament that week. [ 2,116 more words ]

This morning I awoke rather tired and lazy, but unable to fall back asleep. If I were a normal college kid, I’d log onto TikTok and scroll for hours at people who are thousands of times funnier than I am. Maybe, just maybe, I’d log onto Instagram and try to figure out what that one person from high school I haven’t heard from in 6 months is using. [ 1,304 more word ]

The seconds ticked down on the Philadelphia 76ers’ season. My roommates had all left the room, returning to their lives as we recognized the inevitability of the game’s finish. The Celtics had wholly and unsurprisingly demolished the Sixers in four games, sweeping them out of the playoffs, and wasting another year of Joel Embiid’s career. I couldn’t get up. Cynically, I needed to see the season fully lowered into the ground by virtue of zeroes on the clock. [ 800 more words ]

Picking the most disappointing Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen pitcher would be like picking the Kardashian that generates the most unnecessary drama for attention. It makes for fun discussion, but in reality it’s obnoxious and a waste of time. In a rather uninspiring group that has produced numbers not seen in the history of baseball, Nick Pivetta stands out as the particularly frustrating arm. [ 1,268 more word ]

For years, Gregg Murphy has been the lovable and entertaining man with the microphone navigating ballparks across the majors during the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcasts of the Phillies games. On camera, “Murph” has been a fan favorite. Jesting back and forth with Tom McCarthy, giving updates on anything and everything going on in baseball, and, most notably, somehow managing to get soaked every single time the Phillies win on a walk-off.
