Tommy Robinson has been hit with a legal order after brazenly hijacking one of the most powerful anthems of the anti-apartheid movement. Labi Siffre, the 80-year-old musician behind Something Inside So Strong, has demanded Robinson stop using his song at rallies and on social media.

For Siffre, a black, gay, atheist artist who wrote the track after witnessing the brutality of apartheid South Africa, its appropriation by the far right is not just unlawful but absurd. The song, embraced by Nelson Mandela and countless human rights campaigns, was written as a cry for dignity and equality, not as a soundtrack for a movement rooted in division and hate.

Robinson’s attempt to claim the song as his own “story” exposes the hollowness of his message. It is theft, both in the legal sense and in the moral sense, stripping a work of its true history and meaning to serve a political agenda that stands in direct opposition to everything it represents.
